Deputy Sheriff’s Association Supports Community

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 06/03/2014 07:30 PM
San Andreas, Ca... The Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) administers a donor advised fund for the Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA). The DSA is an affiliation of sworn deputies and personnel from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department. They independently raise funds for causes that benefit and promote public safety in the County. They also work with schools to provide funds for extracurricular activities and provide scholarships for students wishing to pursue a law enforcement career. To date in 2014, the following monetary grants have been made by DSA: Calaveras High School Wrestling Team received $500 that will pay for new mats. $300 went to the Lady Reds Softball team for equipment and uniforms. The 6th grade Volley Ball program in Valley Springs will continue due to the $300 they were granted. Calaveras Youth Wrestling now has new uniforms and the $500 donation helped offset the cost of insurance...

Dustin Anthony Prater July 15, 1996 - May 24, 2014

Posted by: Staff_Writer on 06/02/2014 04:46 PM
Linden, CA...Dustin Anthony Prater was born July 15, 1996 in French Camp, CA to Frank and Shelly Prater of Stockton, CA. Dusty received his angel wings on May 24, 2014. Dustin made friends of all ages with his beautiful smile, wit, humor, and amazing personality that will always be one of a kind. He loved the outdoors and was a member of the National Rifle Association, California Houndsmen, Ducks Unlimited and many other organizations. Weekends were spent fishing, hunting, camping, racing, 4-wheeling, mudding, barbequing, working on his trucks and listening to country music next to a bon fire...

Beware the Misleading Candidate Slate Mailers ~ By Cory Burnell

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/02/2014 05:38 PM
Valley Springs, CA...You’ve probably received a number of cards in the mail, if you’re a registered voter, with titles like “Conservative” or “Republican” Voters Guide, and they’ve even had legitimate conservative Republicans on them like Tim Donnelly. BUT they’ve also included liberals and/or Democrats who’ve paid to be on the card. Don’t be duped! Listen, if you were a liberal and/or a Democrat running for office in Calaveras County, which is a 2 to 1 conservative county, you’d be tempted to stoop to low tactics like falsely presenting yourself as conservative or Republican. It’s morally reprehensible and certainly disingenuous. Of course, I’m sure Republicans buy their way onto Democrat-portrayed cards in liberal counties, so I’m not suggesting they occupy higher moral ground on the subject, but we voters need to be aware of this underhanded practice...

Calaveras Public Health Services - Warm Weather Warning

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 05/30/2014 12:19 PM
San Andreas, Ca - Vehicle heat related deaths in California have already claimed two children in 2014. These deaths are preventable. Calaveras Public Health Services is issuing this reminder to all residents that provide transportation to children. It does not take a heat wave for the risk of heat illness and death to be present for those who are most vulnerable – children, severely disabled and frail seniors. Pets are also at risk of heat illness and death if left in a vehicle for even a short period of time...

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/29/2014 12:52 PM
San Andreas, CA...During a May 28 board meeting, the Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors decided to request that the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors reverse its position on state Wild and Scenic designation for a portion of the Mokelumne River. Directors said legislation moving through the state Senate should be halted to allow for a “collaborative process” to take place among stakeholders....
