Modified "Ban" Ordinance On Commercial Cannabis Still Moving Forward |

San Andreas, CA...Today's special study session to continue discussion of cannabis cultivation in Calaveras County, focused on comments to the Draft EIR for the proposed ordinance to ban cultivation and commercial activities associated with cannabis. At the end of the meeting board discussion centered on trying to craft an ordinance that balanced the will of the Calaveras County residents with the expanding industry statewide.

San Andreas – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) is pleased to welcome Emily Kilgore, Fire Prevention Specialist II, to the Unit. Emily comes to TCU from the CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit where she worked as a Communications Operator in the Emergency Command Center. Prior to coming to work for CAL FIRE, Emily spent several years working as a Fire Prevention Technician on the Stanislaus National Forest.

San Andreas, CA...On 06/17/2017 at approximately 1610 hours, Katrina Williams was driving her Jeep westbound on SR-12, west of SR-49. Janet Ballou was driving her Ford truck eastbound on SR-12, approaching the Jeep. For an undetermined reason, Williams turned her jeep to the left into the path of Ballou. Ballou had no time to react and the vehicles collided head on.

Calaveras County Public Health Department Issues Heat Advisory to Residents |

San Andreas, CA... Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division has issued a heat advisory for the County. We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures of 100 degrees or more are expected over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to say cool in hot weather.” During this heat wave, be sure to:

Lori Lee (Crain) Pierce, 51, died in San Andreas, CA. on June 9, 2017. Lori was born on January 10, 1966 to Mary Lou (Martin) Crain and Harold Dean Curtis Crain. Lori lived in Calaveras County most of her life and graduated from Calaveras High School in 1984. Lori worked for K-mart and the Jackson Rancheria Casino for many years. Although her favorite work was doing anything outdoors, whether it was cutting/splitting firewood or riding her tractor mower this is what she loved to do.

San Andreas, CA...Vicki Luann Hegel, age 63 passed away Friday June 9th at her home in San Andreas Ca. Vicki was born in 1954 in Winfield Alabama. She met her husband Mike Hegel of Angels Camp, CA in 1979 while living in Mississippi. Mike and Vicki moved to San Andreas Ca in 1980. They married in 1985 and have been together since. Vicki was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She made a positive impact on every person she met.

San Andreas, CA...An update regarding negotiations between Calaveras Unified School District and Calaveras Unified Educators Association (CUEA). Posted on the CUSD website at https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8dxpNiYFqDlSDF2VDFfeTBRS2s/view is a copy of the official Fact Finding Report, including the formal dissent issued as part of the official report, that was a result of the formal Fact Finding process that Calaveras Unified School District engaged in with the Calaveras Unified Educators Association (CUEA), as part of the contract negotiation process.
