San Andreas, CA...Michele Shelton from the Amador-Tuolumne Community Action Agency addressed Board of Supervisors today about the California Emerging Technologies fund. ATTCA is leading the cause for getting grants to improve Broadband Access in the local Five-County area. These grants are for planning and infrastructure. They are following a very successful project over in the Humboldt County Area.... |

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph's Facilities and Project Development Director, Larry Cornish addressed the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors this morning on all of the great things that are happening at the Hospital. He brought the Hospital's Business of the Year award up & also promoted an upcoming Job Fair that will be held at Toyon Middle School to showcase the healthcare jobs available in the area. One of the biggest news items in his update, was the announcement that the Mark Twain St. Joseph's Healthcare District will be building a 13,000 square foot medical facility in the new Copperopolis Towne Square....

Gardeners often end the season with a supply of leftover seeds. They are often saved from one year to the next. Each type of seed typically remains viable and grows into healthy seedlings for only a certain average number of years. If your seed envelopes date back to the 1980s and 1990s, you'd be better off tossing them and buying new seeds for this spring's planting season.....

Hospital Awards Grant Funds to Youth Programs |

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital recently announced the awards for their 2007 Endowment for Youth Program. Each year the hospital’s Thrift Stores provide funding opportunities for not-for-profit Calaveras County projects that provide services to children ages 0-18. For this funding period, $34,426 was awarded to 62 local organizations to support their youth programs.....
"Did you know…the Hospital Foundation recently announced a campaign in support of Women's Health to purchase digital mammography technology."

San Andreas, CA...The Friends of the Calaveras County Library present "YEE-HAW" Trivia Bee on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the San Andreas Town Hall. This is an Annual Fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. "Cowboy" is this years theme at the annual trivia bee. Individual tickets are $25 per person, $12 for children 12 and under and teams of three cost $225. Social hour, 5:30, Buffet dinner, 6:30 and trivia starts at 8 pm. Tickets on sale at all Calaveras County Libraries or call 754-6510.

Help Start Gardening Earlier in Spring~By Ken Churches |

By making a raised garden bed or two in the early spring, home gardeners can plant earlier than planting in un-mounded soil. Soil dries and warms up more quickly in the spring in raised beds. Reducing foot traffic on the beds themselves reduces soil compaction, a bane to growing plants. Make the raised beds narrow enough that the center of each bed can be planted, watered and weeded from a footpath beside the bed....
