Clarence “Smokey” Spreadborough Aug. 22, 1928 – Aug. 27, 2016 |

Angels Camp, CA...Clarence “Smokey” Spreadborough, Aug. 22, 1928 – Aug. 27, 2016. Born in Monterey, CA, moved to Calaveras County, where his mother was born. He and his siblings attended the little two room school house in Altaville and Bret Harte High. Smokey was a Teamster Truck Driver for 40 years, starting with Blagen Lumber in Toyon, in the early 50’s, and then for Calaveras Cement Plant until they closed. His last employer was Winkler Trucking in San Andreas. Smokey was a long time member of the Angels Gun Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #33. Smokey loved the mountains and going to the “cabin”. To those who knew him he never had a bad day in his life. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

San Andreas, CA...On 08-28-16 at 10:30 AM, Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3000 block of Central Hill Road in San Andreas to investigate a report of a brandishing of a firearm. The victim was approached by two adult suspects, one male and one female, who had parked their vehicle at the entrance to the property. The two suspects asked the victim for directions, and then engaged in an argument with the victim. The victim asked the suspects to leave. The female suspect retrieved an unknown object from the vehicle and began pointing it at the victim while the male suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and ordered the victim on the ground. The victim ran to an adjacent property and called 9-1-1. The sheriff’s office arrived at the property and was unable to locate the suspects. The victim told the sheriff’s office that the suspects took several marijuana plants that were growing on the property. The victim valued the plants at $19,000.

West Point Woman Who Started Willow Fire Arrested On Multiple Charges |

San Andreas, CA...Hogan was driving her vehicle eastbound on Mountain Ranch Rd. For an unknown reason the right rear tire became flat and the rim was in contact with the roadway while she was driving. The rim was causing a shower of sparks that was igniting the grass shoulder of the roadway. A witness behind Hogan attempted to gain her attention however she would not stop her vehicle. The witness eventually drove around Hogan and used his vehicle to stop Hogan by blocking the roadway. He contacted Hogan who did not appear to know that her vehicle was disabled. Due to the fires, Hogan's vehicle was also catching fire. The witness pulled Hogan from the burning vehicle. After an investigation by CHP, Hogan was arrested for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended driver license. A Drug Recognition Expert determined that Hogan was under the influence of a Narcotic Analgesic and Cannabis at the time of the incident.

San Andreas, CA...Evacuation Center is being opened at the San Andreas Town Hall at 24 Church Hill Rd San Andreas. Red Cross will be staffing and can accommodate small domestic animals.

San Andreas, CA...Willow Fire Incident Information as of August 28, 2016 6:30 pm. The fire was appearantley started by a vehicle and was reported at. 1:07 pm. It is off Willow Creek Rd & Mountain Ranch Rd, east of San Andreas. Acres Burned - Containment: 450 acres - 15% contained Evacuations: A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the Willow Valley Subdivision. The evacuation warning has been lifted for Old Gulch Road from Calaveritas Road to Rocky Road. Residents only are allowed back into the area.

San Andreas, CA...Peace Officers with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne – Calaveras Unit determined that a vehicle driving on Mountain Ranch Road, sparked several fires. These fires have so far ultimately burned approximately 450 acres of vegetation. Renee Hogan was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at the eastern most fire, which also burned her vehicle. Hogan was initially arrested for violation of California Vehicle Code Section 23152(e), driving under the influence of drugs.

San Andreas, CA...Yesterday shortly after noon a 94 year old Valley Springs man sustained minor injuries when a Valley Springs woman who is probably younger than some of his shirts, lost control of her vehicle and went into a spin. He tried to avoid the young whippersnapper but was unsuccessful. Youthful drivers these days & the release is enclosed. Let's be careful out there....

Search Warrant Served In Valley Springs For Butane Honey Oil Lab |

Valley Springs, CA...On 8-26-16 at about 1100hrs the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant on the 2000 block of Danaher in Valley Springs as part of an investigation into a concentrated cannabis lab. It was determined during the investigation that the suspect had been using butane to manufacture concentrated cannabis. Several items collected at the scene are connected to concentrated cannabis.
