Sheep Ranch, CA...When we head to the Government Center in San Andreas many times we take the back way down Avery Sheep Ranch Road and through Mountain Ranch. It gives us an opportunity to see some of the fairest parts of the county and also take some quick peeks at progress on Butte Fire Recovery. Sometimes though the traffic backups are horrendous and remind me of sitting in Bay Area traffic. Congestion is unfortunately here to stay in Calaveras County. One fellow clogging the lanes even seemed to enjoy holding up traffic...
Mokelumne Hill, CA...Surrounded by love, Sydney "Syd" Mathos Cilenti passed away at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital (San Andreas) early Sunday evening on May 8, 2016. She was 83. Syd considered herself a life-long resident of Calaveras County having moved here in 1953. With her husband, Joe Mathos, Syd ran the gas station in downtown Moke Hill across the street from Shutter Tree Park until the late 1960's.

San Andreas, CA...Tonight the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce held the first of two Candidates Nights for candidates in the races for contested seats. The District One contestants met this evening at the San Andreas Town Hall and answered questions across the spectrum from economic development, marijuana, general plan & more. Incumbent Cliff Edson, challengers Sharon Romano & former Supervisor Gary Tofanelli are battling for the honor to serve the next four years.

Unknown Subject Fled On Foot After Injury Accident( Update...Driver Has Been Found)

West Point, CA... (Update...The driver, Joseph Shortal, has been located and charges will be filed for Felony Hit and Run.) An unknown party was driving a Chevy in the eastbound traffic lane of State Route 26 at an unknown speed. A 73 year old Stockton man was driving his Ford and was stopped on private property preparing to turn left onto westbound SR-26. After checking both directions on SR-26, and when it was clear, He proceeded to turn left onto westbound SR-26 and established the right of way. The person that fled the scene observed the Ford entering SR-26 and applied his brakes forcefully. The Ford almost completed it's left turn and was established within the westbound traffic lane. The driver of the Chevy lost traction with the roadway and began to slide to the left into the westbound traffic lane.
