San Andreas, CA…Clell Gideon Brown, best known as “Brownie”, passed away of natural causes in his home town of San Andreas, California, on September 20, 2015. He was 88 years old and is buried in the Masonic Section of Peoples Cemetery in San Andreas. He was born in Long Beach, Calif., as the first born of twins, May 24, 1927. He was an avid Oregon State Beavers Fan, having obtained his college education in pharmacy there. His career and significant intellectual pursuit was pharmacy, and he operated Kelly’s Drug Store for many years. He carried on the family interest in weather patterns and statistics, and fraternity and service in the Masons. His church was Presbyterian, and opera was an ongoing passion...

Mountain Ranch, CA...Betty Mae Anderson passed away on September 14, 2015 at the age of 84. She was born on February 24, 1931 in Quincy, Illinois where she lived until she was 11. Her parents moved the family to Redwood City, California after the start of the depression. She met and married her husband of 54 years where they lived in the Santa Clara and Sunol area before moving to Mt. Ranch, CA where they lived for the last 37 yrs.

San Andreas, CA...Herbert “Herb” Bryant Filben was born August 20, 1923 in Ukiah, California, and raised in Potter Valley, California. He died of natural causes on September 22, 2015 while living at the Avalon Health Care Center in San Andreas, California. He was 92. Herb was a long time resident of Calaveras County and the owner operator of the Hummingbird Antique store, located at the ‘Barn’ in San Andreas. He had been buying and selling antiques for almost 50 years and was an expert in antique lamp repair.

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center ia promoting the importance of early detection of breast cancer, followed by prompt treatment, saves lives. The annual ‘Pink in the Night’ opening ceremony October 1st, in Valley Springs kicked off the month of awareness. All those who currently have breast cancer, survivors and support providers were invited to light a candle in tribute to those who are currently battling breast cancer, in remembrance of those that bravely lost their battle, or ones that have survived the disease.

San Andreas, CA...On Wednesday, October 14th, all who live in Calaveras, Amador and Tuolumne Counties are invited to attend a Town Hall Meeting, sponsored by the Calaveras County Republican Party. Our guest speaker will be Steve Baird, representing the State of Jefferson. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM., at the Metropolitan Event Center, 55 Main Street, San Andreas. Efforts to form a 51st State have been growing in your neighboring rural counties, whose residents have grown tired of not having a voice in government, where actions and decisions are based on the voters from greater Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas.

Help is available through the Disaster Relief Center (DRC), conveniently located at the Calaveras County Government Center at 891 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas. Several government and service agencies are available to offer assistance. Fire recovery officials encourage anyone affected by the fire to visit the DRC and learn more about the available resources.
