Mountain Ranch, CA...Sacramento based blues band Julie and the Jukes play pure, classic blues at Calaveras Arts free Music in the Parks on Wednesday, July 22 in Mountain Ranch at the Community Park. Music begins at 6:30pm. Bring your low back chairs, picnic dinners, favorite beverage along with you to make a full, fun evening with friends, family and great music. If you prefer not to hassle with dinner, purchase a dinner of chicken and beverage from volunteers of the Youth Alliance. Dinners are sold from 5:30pm to 6:30pm for $10 each. The cost in nominal and the proceeds support their good work.

San Andreas, CA...A celebration of the life of Jerry F. Martin will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at noon in the old gymnasium at Calaveras High School, where Jerry taught for almost 30 years. Jerry passed away at his home of 52 years on May 22, 2015. A reception is being planned to follow.

2015 San Andreas Community Clean Up Day This Saturday |

San Andreas, CA...Join your neighbors at the San Andreas Cleanup Day! The Cleanup is co-sponsored by the San Andreas Recreation & Parks District, San Andreas Community Covenant Church, and the Calaveras Council of Governments. This Community Cleanup Day in San Andreas takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 7:00AM to 11:00AM. Volunteers will meet at Turner Park, 287 Treat Ave., San Andreas. Register in advance by contacting Zerrall McDaniel at Zerrall@yahoo.com. All volunteers should wear work clothes the day of the clean up and bring gloves, ear plugs, and tools such as weed eaters, rakes, brooms, and loppers. A lunch for volunteers will follow.

West Point, CA...The Beth E. Childs/ Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship administered by the Calaveras Community Foundation was presented during the Awards night at Calaveras High School in early June. The 2015 scholarship committee chose, for the first time ever, to award two scholarships. Timothy Hood and Kenneth Wright were virtually tied based on the committee’s criteria.
