Thank you Amador and Calaveras County Employers for Supporting The Arc

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/24/2014 12:11 PM
Amador and Calaveras County, Ca...The Arc of Amador and Calaveras is a non-profit, grass roots organization who works with intellectually and developmentally disabled adults. One of the areas we support our consumers in is supported employment. Currently we have 40 individuals working in the community at a variety of businesses throughout Amador and Calaveras Counties. They are hired through the business and receive minimum wage or above. Some of the perks of hiring someone through The Arc is that they are assigned a Job Coach, who helps them learn their job, at no cost to the employer. The job coach is always available throughout their employment term. We also pride ourselves on helping our folks develop a natural support system by building friendships with supervisors, co-workers and peers with similar jobs and needs. Of course the biggest reward is seeing how proud our folks are of their jobs; because of course where they work is the best place on earth. The Arc’s Supported Employment program could not be as successful if it was not for the businesses listed below. Without their willingness to hire, many people we support, may have never found the satisfaction and independence that comes from employment....

Give Your Kids Your Honey-Do List this Summer!

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/24/2014 02:09 PM
Calaveras, CA...It's hard to believe that summer vacation is past it's halfway point and school will be starting in just a few weeks. There are still so many things we haven't done on our Things-To-Do-This-Summer list! And it's not just weekend getaways, but those little home improvement projects that we swore we would finally get to this summer. With your kids on summer vacation, you have plenty of helpers to get through your home improvement projects in no time. I'm sure by now you've heard "Mom, I'm bored" at least a few times. Even though there is an abundance of toys, video games and family pets to occupy their time. Oh, and there is also that place called "outside" where they could go play, but you know how that goes. So, for the kid with "nothing" to do...hand them a paint brush and get creative!

Autozone Project Moves Forward In Valley Springs

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/23/2014 11:03 AM
San Andreas, CA....In circumstances that were a bit complex the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors allowed the Autozone Project to move to the next phase with a 4-1 vote with Callaway voting against. There are existing approvals and entitlements on the 30 plus acre parcel that the property owner did not want to open back up to environmental and other reviews. The Autozone project adds an additional layer, in essence and is proposed to be built south of Senders on Hwy 26. Caltrans, MyValleySprings.com, were the voices of opposition with Supervisor Edson the most vocal and eloquent voice for approval. Caltrans objected on grounds that in approving the county would not be following proper planning procedures. Supervisor Edson countered with a suggestion that that this portion of Hwy 26 become a county maintained road and remove Caltrans from the equation...
