San Andreas, CA...On January 26, 2013 at approx. 11:35 am a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle driving on Highway 49 in San Andreas. The driver, Amber Nicole McMillan (28) of San Andreas, was suspected of driving on a suspended driver’s license. She was also on probation out of San Joaquin County. Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) recently announced that it will provide $2,000 in scholarships this year to area high school students as part of its new Travel Writing Scholarship program. Aimed at encouraging interest in tourism marketing, the first-ever CVB Travel Writing Scholarship, challenges local students to create a 400-750 word blog post, with photos, to entice visitors to the area. San Andreas, CA...Crews are working to remove an overturned big rig that is affecting traffic on Hwy 12 near Toyon. Please expect delays in the area. Update...there were injuries in this incident and the passenger was flown to Doctors Hospital and the driver was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center. One way traffic controls are still in effect at this time.. San Andreas, CA...On January 30, 2013 deputies from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the San Andreas Mini Mart for an activated alarm. Upon arrival they discovered that the store had been burglarized. Surveillance camera footage recorded two subjects forcibly entering the rear of the building. A large amount of tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, energy drinks and lighters were stolen during the crime...

Angels Camp, CA...Walt Markus and his team at Gateway Press in Murphys were the winners of the "Business of the Year" award at tonight's Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner. For 28 years they have been providing a wide range if business graphics and printed products. This a well deserved honor for this well run and fixture of the community. State Senator Tom Berryhill was on hand to present the honor. 2012 was a great year for the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce and tonight was their 89th Annual Dinner where the new officers, directors, and business of the year are announced....
Calaveras Girls Take Top Spot at Jim Frazier Tournament

Stackton, CA..The Calaveras Girls Soccer Team took the top spot at the Jim Frazier League Tournament last weekend. Girls U19 Jim Frazier Winter League - 13 teams from Modesto, Stockton, Merced, Turlock, Tracy, Tuolumne, Ebbetts Pass, Linden and Calaveras. Their tournament record: 3 wins. 1 tie. 1st place. Tied Ebbetts Pass 0-0. Defeated Turlock 3-0. Defeated Linden 3-0. Defeated Stockton 4-0. The top goal scorer was Tiffany Souza. The team now is sitting with a 7-2-1 record during the regular season...
Mark Twain Medical Center Awards $22,000 in Community Grants With Video Enclosed

San Andreas, CA...January 23, 2013– Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) has selected six Calaveras County nonprofit organizations to receive Dignity Health Community Grants for 2012. “Besides having the opportunity to listen to each of the recipients about their projects, this luncheon also provides us the opportunity to talk about our Community Benefit programs and celebrate their successes,” commented Larry Cornish, V.P. Chief Operating Officer, who serves on the Executive Leadership team that evaluated grants. “In 2012, over 52,000 persons benefited from our community programs. Highlights included a total community benefit expenditure of over $32 million. Quantifiable benefits included over $3M in benefit to our more vulnerable populations, $40,000 for the broader community, traditional charity care, unpaid costs of Medi-cal and Medicare, community service donations, community health services and education, and community building activities.”
