San Andreas, CA...The last few days with the colder temps have been quieter ones for the local Sheriff's Department at least in the total call volume. Still some significant incidents just total volume a bit lower per day...
Bret Harte Squeaks out a 60-55 Win in Triple Overtime over Calaveras on Friday Night

Angels Camp, CA...In a game that will only add to the stories and history in the battles between Bret Harte and Calaveras the Bullfrogs came out on top of a triple overtime game. Yes...triple overtime. Three times these teams were knotted up as time ran out. Both teams left everything they had on the floor. We have photos below including the one below that Kim Evans sent in. Mokelumne Hill, CA...Last Monday night the historic Hotel Leger was overflowing with community members and goodwill. The occasion was the premier of the Travel Channel's Hotel Impossible episode where the the recent makeover of the Leger was chronicled. Anthony Melchiorri veteran Hotelier and his crew suggested improvements and coordinated the makeover. This truly became a community event not only for the premier of the episode but also many of them had rolled up their sleeves and made the project happen. From former Supervisor Steve Wilensky who helped rally the community to Structural Engineer Terrance Weatherby who helped shepherd the project through the planning and building departments at the county to those who manned the brushes, hammers, brooms, mops, ladders and more to get the Hotel Leger ready for it's national audience and the next chapter in it's life...

Flu Vaccine Available at Calaveras Public Health Department

San Andreas, CA...Recent news reports of an expected severe flu season have created an interest in receiving flu vaccine. The Calaveras County Public Health Department encourages residents who have not been vaccinated to do so soon. “Flu cases in the U.S. have occurred earlier than normal and the severity of the flu this year is greater,” reported Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer. State and county health officials anticipate increased flu activity in California in the coming weeks and urge vaccination now. “Getting vaccinated now allows time for immunity to develop from the vaccine before cases increase,” Dr. Kelaita explained....

What could be more exciting and creative for both artist and art collector than to see the imagery created by copying someone else’s work? Calaveras artists were given the challenge to re-create in their own fashion works of art from one of three, two of three, or three of three photos taken by Ed Cline, CCAC Board President. Cline’s images that they are to interpret are a white fence and garden, a wooded forest, or a basket of fresh, yummy vegetables....
Calaveras Visitors Bureau Offers New Travel Writing Scholarships

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) has announced that it will provide $2,000 in scholarships this year to area high school students as part of its new Travel Writing Scholarship program. The scholarship opportunity is available to seniors at both Bret Harte and Calaveras High Schools who plan on attending a 2- or 4-year college/university within one year of graduating...
