Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in Calaveras County |

| San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County public health officials have reported that Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) has been identified in students at a local elementary school. Eight cases of HFMD have been reported at Jenny Lind Elementary School. HFMD is a viral disease that causes fever, skin rash, and red spots or sores in the mouth. Infants and children under 10 years old are usually affected, but youth and adults can also become sick. HFMD is not related to foot and mouth disease, which occurs in livestock.... |

SAN ANDREAS, CA – February 9th, 2012– Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital (MTSJH) has selected four Calaveras County nonprofit organizations to receive Dignity Health Community Grants for 2011. “On behalf of Dignity Health, we are pleased to award more than $22,000 in community grants this year,” said Patti Monczewski, Interim Hospital President. “Each organization provides invaluable services to the community ranging from seniors to youth.”...

San Andreas, CA...Michael Ann Pellaton of San Andreas died on Friday, January 13, 2012. She was 68. She was born on May 23rd, 1943 in the state of Washington. Michael Ann loved sewing, quilting, cooking and reading. Above all, she liked spending time with her grandchildren and visiting in Mt. Shasta. She volunteered her time to many organizations such as Hospice, St Rose Hospital as a family grief counselor and the Senior Center and others...

| San Andreas, CA...We just spoke with Deputy Les Garcia at the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and he confirmed that a human skull and human remains were found at about 10:45am this morning on a property outside of San Andreas. Teams from the San Joaquin, Calaveras and a special canine unit from the Santa Clara County Sheriffs office assisted in the location of the remains. The remains will be transferred to the San Joaquin County Coroners office where they will be assisted by the Justice Department for DNA analysis for identification... |

| San Andreas, CA...The Campaign to Recall Darren Spellman is looking for people to help circulate petitions in the Valley Springs/Rancho Calaveras portion of the old District 5 of Calaveras County. With a focused effort, enough certified signatures will be submitted to the elections department so that the Spellman recall will qualify to appear on the November ballot. Candidates to replace Spellman will also appear on the ballot which means the replacement candidate with the most votes will immediately replace Spellman as the Supervisor for District 5 for the balance of the current term of office, if the recall is successful.... |
