Major Injuries to Murphys Man in Hwy 4 Collision Late Yesterday Afternoon

Angels Camp, CA...On 1/23/2020, at approximately 1538 hours a Murphys man was driving his Subaru eastbound on SR-4, east of Appaloosa Road, traveling approximately 55 mph. A Valley Springs man was driving his F150 westbound on SR-4, approaching Appaloosa Road, traveling approximately 45 mph, approaching the Subaru. The Driver allowed the Subaru to travel off of the roadway, onto the south shoulder of SR-4. It collided with the railing of the bridge that crosses the west branch of Cherokee Creek. The Subaru then traveled back into the roadway where it collided with the Ford and overturned. The driver of the pickup and his passenger sustained minor injuries. The Murphys man sustained major injuries as a result of this collision.

Arnold, CA...The Detailed forecast for the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada from the National Weather Service Sacramento's Office is below. Today Mostly cloudy. A chance of rain and snow in the morning, then rain and snow in the afternoon. Highs 28 to 43 higher elevations...39 to 49 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...2 to 4 inches higher elevations. Snow level 5500 feet. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 35 mph...except southwest 15 to 35 mph over ridges.

Brand New Student Event is One for the Books as Battle of the Books comes to Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Office of Education has brought a new student event, Battle of the Books. With the help of Avery Middle School Library Media Specialist, Tara Hungerford, the newest student event was a success. Over 30 students, from 4 Calaveras county schools, competed at the event. Teams came with unique team names and T-shirts. An excited, large spectator crowd cheered them on.

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte FFA Chapter rings in the new year at their January FFA meeting with a special presentation from the Officer Team. Many of the officers had attended a leadership conference called Made for Excellence during their sophomore year. At this conference, the members had been introduced to the movement called, “Because I Said I would”. This social, nonprofit movement strived to better humanity by encouraging people to make promises which they write down on a card.

Ladies Bingo Night Grad Night Fundraiser for Calaveras & Bret Harte High Schools

Altaville, CA...Dear Community Supporter, The Grad Night Foundation of Calaveras County is a non-profit organization that provides safe, sober and fun graduation parties for our high school seniors. Since 1989, Calaveras County has not had a single alcohol or drug related high school graduation tragedy. The school does not put on the party. It is an ALL volunteer group using 100% donations and fundraising to fund the Sober Grad Night. This year Calaveras and Bret Harte High Schools are combining fundraising efforts by hosting a Mega Ladies Bingo Night at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp on January 25, 2020.

Arnold, CA...As we start the first full week of 2020 we have a bit of weather headed our way. It should be enough to put a fresh coat of white on our area at higher elevations though. The forecast for West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada from the National Weather Service is below...Rest Of Today Sunny. Highs 31 to 46 higher elevations...43 to 53 lower elevations. Prevailing southwest winds up to 10 mph. Tonight Clear. Lows 15 to 30 higher elevations...28 to 38 lower elevations. Prevailing northeast winds up to 15 mph.

Errant Dodge Damages Bridge on Hwy 4 East of Appaloosa Way

Angels Camp CA...An Arnold Man was driving his Dodge westbound on State Route 4, east of Appaloosa Way at approximately 50 mph. He made an unsafe turning movement to the right which allowed the Dodge to leave the roadway. When the Dodge left the roadway, it collided with a wooden bridge. After the collision, He remained on scene for CHP.

One Lane Traffic Controls in Place for Bridge Repair Work Near Hwy 4 & Poole Station Road

Angels Camp, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is conducting one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 4 (SR-4) at the West Bridge over Cherokee Creek (near Pool Station Road) for bridge work. The bridge is five miles west of the SR-4/SR-49 junction in Altaville. A vehicle collided with the bridge railing on Thursday, December 19, and the structure will remain under one-way traffic control while repairs are performed.
