Flags at Half Staff For Fallen Fire Chief ~By John Hamilton |

Murphys – Copperopolis, CA...Flags in the county will be flown at half mast starting at 11:30am this morning to honor Chief Dennis Powers that passed away late last night after a 3 year bout with cancer. He was greeted at the County Line yesterday afternoon as he made his way home to spend spend the last few hours of his life surrounded by friends and family. He served for over 30 years as Chief of the Copperopolis Fire Protection District and Served with Murphys Fire Protection District as well. Details are still coming in on when his service will be. Angels Memorial Chapel along with the family are handling the services and if a suitable time cannot be arranged next week the service may be next weekend for what is expected to be a very large service. .....

Traffic Alert...Accident on Hwy 4 at Hunt Road. Update as of 9am...Roadway Clear |

Copperopolis, CA...Crews are working a accident on Hwy 4 at Hunt Road. Lanes are blocked and it looks to be an overturned vehicle. Update as of 8:09am we just spoke with CHP Officer Castillo and they currently have one way traffic control in effect at this location and a tow truck is on the way. An ambulance has been dispatched as well as a precaution but the injuries do not appear significant at this time... Update as of 9:00am...the roadway is now clear and crews are leaving the scene.... |

Angels Camp, CA...Emergency crews are responding to an accident on Hwy 4 near Bar XX. Please use caution in the area... Update as of 9:02pm...CHP has just finished with traffic control as they removed the vehicle and the roadway is now clear. This was a non or minor injury accident.... |

Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Veterans Coming up April 30th |

Copperopolis, CA.... On April 30, 2011, the Action Committee to form a Copperopolis VFW is hosting a Veteran Spaghetti Feed Dinner. The dinner will be held at the Copperopolis Armory from 5 to 9 pm. There will be a one hour social time prior to dinner service and also a no-host bar. Guest speakers will include a representative from the County Office of Veterans Affairs, a representative from the VFW Post 2600, the Sonora VA Clinic Outreach Coordinator, Calaveras County Sheriff Kuntz, and Sonora VA Clinic Doctors. Ric Ryan will also receive recognition in writing....

Welcome to Calaveras County Bike Safety Education! Calaveras County is providing bicycle safety training courses for youth who reside within the County. Bicycle safety training sessions will be conducted at eight locations on four Saturdays in April and May, 2011.Funding for this program is provided by a Transportation Enhancement (TE), American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant. This is a free training offered to all Calaveras residents, a helmet will be provided at the completion of the session....
