Weekly Market Update Week of July 26, 2010~by Donna M. Stevenson of Pacific West Financial Group

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/27/2010 06:20 PM
THE MARKETS: About one-third of the S&P 500 companies have reported second-quarter results, and the numbers have been good for stocks so far. By and large, companies are beating estimates and showing growth over last year. Earnings are currently on track to have risen almost 34% from a year ago, and revenues have jumped 9.5% according to Thomson Reuters. Stocks also got a boost from the fact that European banks largely passed a round of government stress tests aimed at clearing up market fears about how the debt crisis is affecting the region’s banking system. Only 7 out of 91 banks failed the tests. Although some analysts are scoffing at the tests and questioning their credibility, most investors viewed this as another milestone passed and shifted their focus back onto fundamentals. ....

Shearing Time for 4-H Alpaca~by Charity Maness

Posted by: Charity_Maness on 07/22/2010 05:01 PM
Copperopolis, CA....Though a little late in the season Thursday was shearing day for some unsuspecting Copperopolis alpaca. Shearing is not as easy as the shearer, Steve from Sandy Acres Alpaca’s, makes it look The first requirement is to catch the alpaca that instinctively knows something is up. While this year’s Calaveras County Fair Grand Champion arrived in style, driven by his human, his head hanging out the window, the wind blowing through his Mohawk type hairstyle, the other’s had to be caught.....

Weekly Market Update Week of July 19, 2010 from Pacific West Financial Group

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/20/2010 02:27 PM
Copperopolis, CA...THE MARKETS: Not everything that starts well ends well. After strong earnings from Alcoa Inc. and Intel Corp. fueled optimism about the earnings season, the Dow’s 7-day winning streak ended on Thursday and reversed sharply on Friday. As weaker-than-expected second-quarter revenue at Citigroup, Bank of America, and General Electric combined with disappointing economic news, both the Dow and the S&P tumbled to end the week lower for the third time in the past four weeks. Amidst growing concerns about how overhaul of the financial regulatory system could hurt bank earnings, the financial sector was the worst performer in the S&P 500, tumbling 4.4% on Friday to end the week down 2.9%...

So you’ve decided to move to the country where the road less traveled loses its philosophical meaning and leans more towards reality…the reality of whether you can make it to the end of that less traveled road with your car intact......

Dog’s Strut their Stuff at Dog Day Afternoon~by Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 07/11/2010 05:30 PM
On toasty Saturday, July 10, dog owners were lead by their canine partners while they strutted their stuff to raise funds for the Calaveras Humane Society at Copperopolis Town Square. About 25 dogs showed up dressed in their finery (mostly their birthday suits) and ready to show their mad skills. Little Jill, Jake Toberer’s Border Collie, would gladly shake hands, lay, and dance toe to toe for a simple scratch behind the ears. Guinness, a 16 month old Great Dane, weighing in at 160 pounds showed off his svelte physique which won him first place in the ‘Best Summer Body’ category. Others wore their .......

Loss of Kado, beloved mascot of True Value in Copper, hits a raw nerve but owners intend to effect a change in CCSO protocol with ‘Kado’s petition’~by Charity Maness

Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 07/09/2010 05:32 PM
Copperopolis, CA....Why Calaveras County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a local icon and family pet is fairly clear. Why those deputies were sent to the call without the assistance of trained Animal Control Officers is where things get muddy, and that has many in town up in arms. “Kado is dead and I’m mad as Hell,” announced one local man causing the dogs owners to demand changes to Sheriff’s Office dispatch protocols via petition. Most in this small close knit town know 15 month old Kado as official greeter at the Lake Tulloch True Value, always happy to lick your legs as you walk by or help you find just .....
