Massive Marijuana Expansion Proposed! An Absurd Blank Check! ~ Alice Montegomery

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/28/2019 08:41 AM
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County has a massive commercial marijuana expansion proposal in the works Oct. 1. Advocates are hoping you don’t catch on. If you think the Urgency Ordinance was a mess and Measure D was misleading, this proposal makes those two look benign Let's take a look. The County and pro-commercial marijuana advocates are gambling with your tax dollars while trying to pull a fast one. Against the State’s demand not to, the County is using an old, inappropriate Environmental Impact Report (EIR) created for a 3 year old, never used, obsolete, never adopted regulation. Then they’re cannibalizing it with an incomplete, vague, illegal addendum. The State of California has said these are both clear violations of CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act). The Planning Commission Chair and Planning Director knew this, but forged on with the imposter documents. Whenever there’s a change or new project, a new EIR is mandated. Even the Planning Chair stated on the record on 9/18/19 at 11:50 a.m.: “In this case we have a new project that was presented to us.” Michelle Plotnik

Will Our Kids Be Free? - Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/11/2019 11:29 AM
Copperopolis, CA....September 17 is the 232nd anniversary of our wonderful US Constitution. For many thousands of years human slavery was normal - including in the United States. America was the first to claw its way out of the darkness of tyranny and put a solution down on paper.

Rebuttal to Rep. Tom McClintock’s “Plan” to Avoid Addressing Climate Change. by John Henry Beyer, Ph.D. Geophysicist

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/08/2019 01:50 PM
Truckee, CA...In his Opinion piece in the March 24th edition of ThePineTree.Net, Rep. McClintock acknowledged, to my surprise, that, “No one denies that our planet is warming, carbon dioxide levels are increasing, and ocean levels are rising.” Of course, that’s not really true. There are many deniers, particularly politicians on the right, who claim global warming is a hoax, starting with the current President. Rep. McClintock then proceeds to use accurate snippets of science in an apparent effort to justify inaction on climate change. In each case he avoids describing the complete issue, which invariably highlights the urgency of taking action.

The Sky’s Not Falling By Congressman Tom McClintock

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/15/2019 04:48 PM
Washington, DC...Abraham Lincoln told the story of boarding with the family of a Presbyterian minister on the night of the greatest meteor shower ever recorded in North America. He was awakened by the minister who shouted, “Arise Abraham, for the heavens are falling and the day of judgment has arrived.” But Lincoln noticed that despite the hysteria around him and the chaos above him, he could still see the familiar constellations fixed in the sky, and he knew the world was not about to end.

Why Our Border Matters By Congressman Tom McClintock

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/14/2018 05:38 PM
Washington, DC...Every nation has a natural right and responsibility to determine who is admitted to its borders. This is what defines a country and ultimately determines whether its culture, values and institutions will endure. The unique qualities that develop within each country’s borders naturally make some more desirable places to live than others. These differences drive immigration patterns. The more successful a nation, the greater is the demand to immigrate to it.

The Ban Slam: State Numbers Reveal a Damaged Calaveras Economy ~ David Kevin Sweet and Prapanna Smith.

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/06/2018 05:33 PM
San Andreas, CA...What was the effect of three Supervisors exiling 1000 workers representing 16% of the Calaveras County workforce without even a plan to replace those jobs? Except for in touristdriven downtown Murphys, exiling those missing customers spelled R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N throughout the county. Data available from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (formerly, Board of Equalization) shows a drastic drop in sales tax allocations in Calaveras County immediately following the County ban on commercial Cannabis cultivation.

Are We Really That Divided? Even on Abortion Gallop Polling Shows 79% Agree

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/25/2018 08:44 AM
Arnold, CA...One of the things we love about covering small towns is that it matters much less where your political loyalties lie and more if a person tries to help his or her community thrive. In our rural and at times economically challenged counties and communities it takes a group effort just to keep small towns functioning. No one asks or cares how you vote when volunteers help for a parade, clean up a park or work on a hiking trail. In rural areas we still know each other in the analog world and not just as keyboard junkies. That is a good thing.

The polls from May of 2018 show that 29% believe abortion should be Legal under any circumstances. 50% believe abortion should be Legal under certain circumstances. Only 18% believed it should be illegal under all circumstances. Click above for full polling data.

Vote Yes on 6 to Repeal an Unfair, Regressive Tax ~ Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/10/2018 05:28 AM
Copperopolis, CA...The cost of living is already too high in California, and the Gas and Car Tax hikes hurts working families that already struggle to pay bills. Estimates suggest the new increase in Gas Tax total will cost a typical family of four $779.20 or more per family, per year. This is about what a family spends on Christmas and two years of school lunches at a public school, or a year of college textbooks.

Dear Mr. President Please Help Us Value People Over Fish ~ By Supervisor Dennis Mills

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/21/2018 12:05 PM
Angels Camp, CA...The Following letter has been sent to the President by Calaveras County Supervisor Dennis Mills.
Dear Mr. President: I am writing to you on behalf of thousands of California citizens, farmers, business leaders, local and state elected officials, and even conservationists who are strongly opposed to a plan by the California State Water Resources Board to drain our reservoirs in a vain attempt to save a few fish. Simply put this proposal places a higher value on fish than people! After extensive opposition presented in numerous hearings in the Central Valley of California, the State Water Resources Board remains committed to their plan which would remove as much as 50% of the water flowing out of our Sierra rivers and sending it out the Golden Gate in order to improve habitat for a small number of Salmon.
