Directors Ask Supervisors To Reconsider Wild and Scenic Support |

San Andreas, CA...During a May 28 board meeting, the Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors decided to request that the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors reverse its position on state Wild and Scenic designation for a portion of the Mokelumne River. Directors said legislation moving through the state Senate should be halted to allow for a “collaborative process” to take place among stakeholders....

Bear Valley Resorts Announces Ownership Change |

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Resorts announced today that a restructuring of the partnerships has been completed and the TBH interests (Toeniskoetter, Breeding and Hallgrimson) have exited the group. The Dundee and Radar entities will continue as 50/50 owners and operators of the Resorts. Since coming together to purchase the Resort assets in 2005, the partners worked diligently to complete the EIR (Environmental Impact Report for the village) and EA (Environmental Assessment at the mountain) required to redevelop the area. In January of 2013 the company reported that the regulatory approvals for the Bear Valley expansion had been completed and they were actively seeking the capital to move the project forward...

Travel Management Agreement Reached on Stanislaus National Forest |

Sonora, CA… A settlement agreement on the 2010 litigation of the 2009 Stanislaus National Forest (NF) Motorized Travel Management decision was filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California today and is effective immediately. The U.S. Forest Service and the plaintiffs to the litigation (The Wilderness Society; Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility; and the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center) reached an agreement that balances the plaintiffs’ concerns while retaining the majority of motorized Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) routes made in the 2009 decision for recreational use...

Calaveras Fair Junior Livestock Auction Tops $377,000 |

Angels Camp, CA...The 2014 Junior Livestock Auction exceeded all expectations. With the assistance of the community, Junior Livestock Committee, Friends of the Fair, the 39th DAA and Kent Whittle- Student Intern; Calaveras County's young producers experienced an awesome payday. Average prices for animals were: Beef $4.14 per pound. Swine $6.35 per pound. Sheep $7.63 per pound. Goats $8.56 per pound. Poultry Pens $43.33 per pound. Poultry Broiler $62.85 per pound. Turkeys $23.12 per pound. Rabbit Pens $12.37 per pound. Rabbit Fryer $74.00 per pound. The Auction topped $377,000. It is always amazing to see this auction every year. It rivals the state fair for totals...

CCWD Completes Arnold Water Leak Repairs |

Arnold, CA...Calaveras County Water District field staff repaired a leak in a water line in Arnold that caused water to be turned off in the area of Blagen Road from about 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. Water service is being restored to the area throughout the afternoon. Water transmission lines will be flushed and customers may experience brown water and air in their water lines. The district recommends customers turn on an outside line in order to flush their personal plumbing systems. Wait until the water runs clear, and the system should function normally....
