Cost-Saving Elections Bill First Defeated, Then Passed
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/09/2014 07:00 PM
Sacramento, CA...On Tuesday, a bill which would have allowed counties to decide how to conduct special elections for Congress and the Legislature failed passage in the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee. Assembly Bill 1873 (Gonzalez/Mullin) would have allowed an election to occur by absentee/mail-in-balloting if a county so desired. A number of requirements were placed into the bill to allow for a limited form of in-person voting. RCRC strongly supported this measure (and similar past legislation) as it would have saved counties money due to the requirement of poll workers and other in-person materials needed for voting...
Fed Chair Janet L. Yellen On The Economic Outlook Before the Joint Economic Committee, U.S. Congress

Washington, DC...The economy has continued to recover from the steep recession of 2008 and 2009. Real gross domestic product (GDP) growth stepped up to an average annual rate of about 3-1/4 percent over the second half of last year, a faster pace than in the first half and during the preceding two years. One cautionary note, though, is that readings on housing activity--a sector that has been recovering since 2011--have remained disappointing so far this year and will bear watching...

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/04/2014 07:37 PM
Angels Camp, CA...One of our great local success stories is Distinctive Metals and the Mills Family. We happened to see boat after new boat being built and we thought we would stop by and see if we could get a few details. It seems East Bay Municipal Utilities District needed to add some new boats to their fleet. They also needed something that would stand up to rigors of being in a rental fleet and still be ready to go and be inviting for the next party.....
