SpaceX Completes Successful California Launch

Lompoc, CA...SpaceX completed a successful satellite launch yesterday from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich Mission also had a very compelling human interest story behind this launch honoring the former NASA engineer that recently lost his battle with cancer. Even if you don't normally watch the launch videos this one has some very nice moments including the Falcon 9 first stage sticking the landing.


Oxford - AstraZeneca Covid Vaccine 90% Effective in Some Trials

Cambridge, United Kingdom...Two different dosing regimens demonstrated efficacy with one showing a better profile. No hospitalisations or severe cases of COVID-19 in participants treated with AZD1222. Positive high-level results from an interim analysis of clinical trials of AZD1222 in the UK and Brazil showed the vaccine was highly effective in preventing COVID-19, the primary endpoint, and no hospitalisations or severe cases of the disease were reported in participants receiving the vaccine. There were a total of 131 COVID-19 cases in the interim analysis.

FAA Ungrounds Boeing 737 Max & Starts Path to Return to Service

Washington, DC...FAA Administrator Steve Dickson today signed an order (PDF) that paves the way for the Boeing 737 MAX to return to commercial service. Administrator Dicksons action followed a comprehensive and methodical safety review process (PDF) that took 20 months to complete. During that time, FAA employees worked diligently to identify and address the safety issues that played a role in the tragic loss of 346 lives aboard Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. Throughout our transparent process, we cooperated closely with our foreign counterparts on every aspect of the return to service. Additionally, Administrator Dickson personally took the recommended pilot training and piloted the Boeing 737 MAX, so he could experience the handling of the aircraft firsthand.

Burn Permit Suspension Lifted in the TCU Starting November 20th

San Andreas, CA...Effective Friday, November 20th, 2020 at 8:00 AM the burn permit suspension in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) of CAL FIRE will be lifted, which will affect State Responsibility Areas within Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. CAL FIRE TCU Unit Chief, Nick Casci, is formally cancelling the burn permit suspension and advises that those possessing current and valid burn permits can now resume burning on permissible burn days. Agriculture burns must be inspected by CAL FIRE prior to burning until the end of the peak fire season. Inspections may be required for burns other than agriculture burns. This can be verified by contacting your local Air Quality Management District.

Pfizer & BioNTech's Covid Vaccine Candidate Reaches 95% Efficacy & Will Seek Approval for Use

New York, NY & Mainz, DE... Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) and BioNTech SE (Nasdaq: BNTX) today announced that, after conducting the final efficacy analysis in their ongoing Phase 3 study, their mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine candidate, BNT162b2, met all of the study’s primary efficacy endpoints. Analysis of the data indicates a vaccine efficacy rate of 95% (p<0.0001) in participants without prior SARS-CoV-2 infection (first primary objective) and also in participants with and without prior SARS-CoV-2 infection (second primary objective), in each case measured from 7 days after the second dose. The first primary objective analysis is based on 170 cases of COVID-19, as specified in the study protocol, of which 162 cases of COVID-19 were observed in the placebo group versus 8 cases in the BNT162b2 group. Efficacy was consistent across age, gender, race and ethnicity demographics. The observed efficacy in adults over 65 years of age was over 94%.
