Posted by: thepinetree on 12/29/2015 10:28 AM
Angels Camp, CA...For those who weren’t able to join us at the standing-room-only 2015 CVB Annual Dinner & 9th annual Innovations in Tourism Awards last month, here’s a recap on the events of the evening, with links to resources that were presented or handed out on the night.  Laurie Giannini, CVB board member, began by welcoming dignitaries and guests and thanking Eric and Christine Taylor for hosting us so graciously at Outer Aisle Foods. She introduced our board members for the 2015/16 fiscal year. Then, Larry Cornish, the CVB Vice President, led a moment of silence in memory of Sheriff Gary Kuntz.

State Wants to Return $28 Million in Undelivered Income Tax Refunds

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/18/2015 11:55 AM
Sacramento, CA...The Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is encouraging taxpayers to find out if they are among the thousands of Californians who missed receiving a total of $28 million in income tax refunds.  This year, the US Postal Service returned more than 49,000 personal income tax refunds to FTB. Most cases involve taxpayers who moved but failed to update their addresses with FTB. Taxpayers are strongly encouraged to use direct deposit, which allows FTB to deliver refunds in a matter of days.

Fed Raises Interest Rate .25%, First Rate Rise In Almost Decade

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/16/2015 04:03 PM
Washington, DC...Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in October suggests that economic activity has been expanding at a moderate pace. Household spending and business fixed investment have been increasing at solid rates in recent months, and the housing sector has improved further; however, net exports have been soft. A range of recent labor market indicators, including ongoing job gains and declining unemployment, shows further improvement and confirms that underutilization of labor resources has diminished appreciably since early this year. Inflation has continued to run below the Committee's 2 percent longer-run objective, partly reflecting declines in energy prices and in prices of non-energy imports. Market-based measures of inflation compensation remain low; some survey-based measures of longer-term inflation expectations have edged down.

A Few Minutes With Bear Valley's New GM Andrea Young

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/16/2015 10:10 PM
Bear Valley, CA...We had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with New Bear Valley Mountain General Manager Andrea Young. Our local ski resort may be owned by a public company but management is now firmly in local hands. For new GM Andrea Young reaching the top spot at the resort reflects that Bear Valley has been part of her and her entire family's life since the 1980s. Her three children have literally grown up on the slopes she now manages. Mountain Manager Chris Aguirre has been at Bear Valley for an incredible 37 years. Patrol & Resort Safety Director Mattly Trent and Snow Sports Director Aaron Johnson each have 21 years of Bear Valley experience...

Southern Mother Lode Assessed Property Values Bounce 5.0 Percent

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/15/2015 10:45 AM
Sacramento, CA...California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Vice Chair George Runner announces assessed property values in Calaveras, Mariposa, and Tuolumne counties grew 5.0 percent ($14.4 billion to $15.2 billion) in 2015-16 from 2014-15. County-assessed property values gained 4.9 percent, while state-assessed values jumped 5.8 percent year-over-year. County assessors are responsible for assessing the value of each home, as well as other residential and commercial property as of January 1 of each year. That value is used to set the property tax that is due by December of that year, and April of the following year. The BOE is responsible for assessing properties such as privately owned public utilities and railroads. Annual tax bills for the owners of those properties are based on these valuations.
