San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center hosted the February Chamber mixer at their new Heart Center. Introduced and welcomed was Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio. MTMC rolled out the red carpet for the event with great food and even gifts for attendees. State Senator Tom Berryhill was also in attendance and some of you may not know he is now a local resident having moved from Ceres to Twain Harte. Adopt a Resolution approving the Second Amended and Restated Central Sierra Economic Development District Joint Powers Agreement and authorizing the Board Chair to sign on behalf of the County. Receive the 2014 Annual Report of the Calaveras County Fish & Game Commission. Adopt a Resolution supporting CALNET Broadband projects in Calaveras County. Lake Tulloch May Shrink Significantly This Summer |

Copperopolis, CA...The Oakdale Irrigation District announced Tuesday that it may draw down the majority of Lake Tulloch this summer in order to meet the irrigation needs of farmers. However, this is a last-resort option, according to OID General Manager Steve Knell, and would only occur if the Stanislaus River water supply does not significantly improve by April. If the draw-down of Tulloch does take place – likely in August or September – the surface of the reservoir may drop below the Calaveras County Water District’s water intake, where water is pumped from the reservoir to the water treatment plant. This would require the intake system to be extended much deeper into the reservoir canyon in order to continue supplying water service to the more than 2,500 connections CCWD has in Copperopolis.

Sacramento, CA...The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) applaud Senators Lois Wolk (D-Yolo County) and Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) for their continued effort to appropriate monies to counties for outstanding obligations relating to Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) payments. Senate Bill 234, introduced last week, would appropriate $19 million to the Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) to make past due PILT payments to California counties. While the Governor’s 2015-16 proposed Budget includes PILT funding for the upcoming year, annual payments haven’t been made in well over a decade. “This has been an ongoing issue for 14 years, during which time counties have struggled to tighten their budgets in order to fund programs and services for residents when the State stopped making PILT payments. Small, rural counties throughout the state have particularly felt the weight of this burden,” said Senator Wolk, coauthor of SB 234. “This measure will appropriate $19 million to the Department of Fish and Wildlife to make past due PILT payments to counties, paying off this debt once and for all.”

Murphys, CA...Plans for the 2015 Murphys Irish Day, the popular community celebration that each year draws upwards of 10,000 people to the historic Gold Rush town, are well under way. Always presented on the third Saturday in March by the Murphys Business Association (MBA), this year’s event will be held Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. One of the first orders of business is the creation of the Irish Day Parade that will wend its way down Main St. to the swirl of bagpipes starting promptly at 11 a.m. Recognized as one of the premiere parades in the Mother Lode, it always presents a wide array Irish-themed floats, marching bands, youth groups, community organizations, classic cars and other motorized vehicles. Local fire departments and law enforcement are well represented and there is bound to be a leprechaun or two...

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveas County doesn't have any "Big Box" stores but there were lots and lots of Big Boxes being sold on Sunday in Angels Camp. Middleton's held their Annual Private Sale and their store was packed with customers buying everything from Giant Screen TV's to Appliances and Furniture....
