Arnold, CA – Three local organizations will benefit from the auction proceeds collected at the recent Greater Arnold Business Association Holiday Banquet. Here GABA president Paul Bertini presents gift checks to each group’s representative. San Andreas, CA...Below are additional photos and video from the searing-in ceremony of Hugh K. Swift as Judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Calaveras. The ceremony and reception afterwards was held at the new Calaveras County Courthouse complex last Friday. Judge Swift was recently appointed to the position by Governor Brown.

As the Drought picture becomes clear, CCWD will implement appropriate programs and policies to address water conservation. At this time, the district is advising that all measures are voluntary. While water supplies may be challenged during the upcoming year; good stewardship of the districts’ resources may be adequate to avoid mandatory restrictions...

And I stopped by N.C. State University, where engineers are set to develop the new technology that will make those motors even better. Calaveras Ecnomic Development Company Aims to Increase Area Broadband |

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Economic Development Company (CCEDC) announces a new objective for the New Year: working to increase Broadband availability throughout Calaveras County. “The road to prosperity is at least partially available through the Internet,” stated the CCEDC. Citing the lack of high speed Internet in many parts of the county, the CCEDC is working with Central Sierra Connect (CSC) to identify areas lacking broadband availability. CSC representative Darrell Slocum provided an overview of the county’s current broadband infrastructure, projects under construction and need for expanded availability at a recent EDC meeting....

Governor Brown Declares Drought State of Emergency |

San Francisco, CA....With California facing water shortfalls in the driest year in recorded state history, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today proclaimed a State of Emergency and directed state officials to take all necessary actions to prepare for these drought conditions. “We can’t make it rain, but we can be much better prepared for the terrible consequences that California’s drought now threatens, including dramatically less water for our farms and communities and increased fires in both urban and rural areas,” said Governor Brown. “I’ve declared this emergency and I’m calling all Californians to conserve water in every way possible.”....

Murphys, CA....Black Sheep Winery of Murphys received high marks for its Zinfandels at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The 2010 Calaveras County Zinfandel was awarded a Double Gold and the 2010 Amador County Zinfandel received a Gold Medal. A Double Gold medal signifies that all the judges on the panel unanimously gave the wine a Gold. The San Francisco Chronicle judging is one of the largest and most prestigious wine competitions in the world...
