January is National Mentoring Month: Be Someone Who Matters to Someone Who Matters |

Angels Camp, CA...his January marks the 13th annual National Mentoring Month, a campaign aimed at expanding quality mentoring programs and connecting more of our community’s young people with caring adults. Here in Calaveras County, the Calaveras County Office of Education administers two youth mentoring programs: the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, which supports 25-30 matches at a time between children and caring adult friends; and the FNL Mentoring Program, which connects up to 30 middle school students with high school mentors each year. Both the Calaveras County Board of Education and the Board of Supervisors annually recognize National Mentoring Month and express their gratitude for our community’s volunteer mentors....

Moreno Valley, CA — Board of Equalization Chairman Jerome E. Horton took off his suit coat, climbed aboard the back of a large truck, and with vindication in his eye, helped BOE investigators dump more than 32 pallets of contraband cigarettes and other tobacco products into the Riverside County Waste Management dump. The cartons of counterfeit smokes were recently seized by BOE investigators during the agency’s ongoing war on the underground economy....

Mokelumne, CA...As 2013 draws to a close. We all look forward to a fresh start in the New Year. Deborah Marlene’s is doing just that. This month, Deborah will be featuring works that she did “En Plein Air e” in France. I was privileged to travel to France twice with a group of artists from Murphys. These trips were lead by the late Lura Francis..
