The Budget Outlook Under Current Policies, $5.6 Billion Projected Reserve at End of 2014-15 ~ Executive Summary by Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/23/2013 10:41 AM
Sacramento, CA...In November 2012, we projected that with continued growth in the economy and restraint in new program commitments, the state budget could see multibillion-dollar operating surpluses within a few years. In 2013, the Legislature and the Governor agreed to a restrained state budget for 2013-14, and our forecast of state tax revenue collections has increased since last year. Accordingly, we now find that California’s state budget situation is even more promising than we projected one year ago. The state’s 2013-14 budget plan assumed a year-end reserve of $1.1 billion. Our revenue forecast now anticipates $6.4 billion in higher revenues for 2012-13 and 2013-14 combined. These higher revenues are offset by $5 billion in increased expenditures, almost entirely due to greater required spending for schools and community colleges. Combined with a projected $3.2 billion operating surplus for the state in 2014-15, these factors lead us to project that, absent any changes to current lawsand policies, the state would end 2014-15 with a $5.6 billion reserve...

Murphys, CA...It is hard for most vacationers to find a spot to have a short getaway, and it is even harder to find a spot for relaxed dining when they arrive. Most of the time, innkeepers/hotels and bed and breakfasts have their “preferred” list of recommendations, but how do you really know you are getting the best of the best? There is a new restaurant in Murphys, Roquefort, which offers the exact dining experience that will keep patrons raving for years to come. The menu is the first in the area to feature small plates and also the first in the area to offer a happy hour. Menu items are all organic, local and GMO free. Patrons can enjoy dishes such as extra gooey mac and cheese, an amazing roasted beet salad, Fontina, Cheddar and Roquefort grilled cheese with Spinach and Walnuts on Multigrain, or the Fontina, Red Sausage, Shiitake Mushrooms, with Oregano on sourdough. Bear Valley Cross Country Opens For The Season On Friday, November 29th!! Updated

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/23/2013 02:35 PM
Bear Valley, CA...With the recent snowfall, Bear Valley Cross Country & Adventure Company is pleased to announce that a nice selection of groomed trails, including three new trails, will be open for snowshoeing and fat biking beginning on Friday, November 29, 2013. Due to the current minimal amount of snow, cross country skiing may, or may not, be part of the offering. The staff has made a tremendous effort this summer preparing the trails to be able to open with less snow than ever before, so trails could be skied on with as little as two or three additional inches of snow. According to today’s weather forecast, that is entirely possible by the Friday opening. The tubing facility will be open as well, sort of. Until we receive more snow, the tubing operation will be moved to Bear Valley Mountain, where they are making snow in preparation for a Saturday, November 30th, opening that will include the Polar Dash 5K/1K Fun Run, tubing and other activities.

Supply of Licensed Child Care is Not Recovering to Meet the Needs of Working Families

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/22/2013 02:59 PM
Calaveras, CA...As California’s economy continues to recover and parents are entering the workforce in increasing numbers, access to affordable, high quality child care is essential. Working families depend on child care programs which also provide learning experiences critical to their children’s development. Yet, according to the 2013 California Child Care Portfolio, a report released today by the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, in Calaveras County there are just over 909 licensed child care spaces available to serve an estimated 3,178 children whose parents are in the workforce. For families able to find child care that does meet their needs, all too often high costs limit their ability to access that care....
