Pacific Gas and Electric Company Donates To Calaveras Community Foundation

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/07/2013 02:56 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) recently presented Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) with a generous $5000 donation to benefit The Career and Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarship Fund. The Career and Technical Training Scholarship Fund, founded in 2010, helps to support alternative forms of higher education, including two-year junior college and trade school certificates. In a September 1st article from Parade magazine, it was stated that the vast manufacturing assembly operations of the past have given way to high-tech, precision manufacturing where sophisticated components like aircraft parts, medical devices and lab testing equipment are the rule not the exception. The challenge in America is to produce more workers who have these skills...

Murphys Worked Magic Again for the 2013 Grape Stomp & Street Fair. ~By John Hamilton

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 10/06/2013 03:16 PM
Murphys, CA...The 20th Annual Calaveras Grape Stomp is in the books. It was another great day in Murphys. This year marked the 20th year for the Stomp. The Grapeful Dead produced a prodigious 18.73 lbs of juice from the 50 lbs of grapes that filled the barrels for the finals. This year 6 time winners the “Cluster Busters” announced that they are retiring their stomping feet and mucking hands and letting a new wave of competitors rise to prominence. They made the finals and finished in 7th place for their swan stomp. It is teams and efforts such as the “Cluster Busters” that have helped make this event one of the best of its type in Northern California. Beneath the costumes and frivolity there is always a competitive edge that drives many of the teams...

Above are over 160 photos from the Grape Stomp and Street Faire. Below are videos of the the final regular heat and then the semi-finals and then the finals. Below that is the video of the costume awards.

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/05/2013 12:02 PM
Sacramento, CA...The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) applauds Governor Jerry Brown for signing into law Senate Bill 740, which helps expand broadband deployment in rural California. Several weeks ago, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 740, authored by Senator Alex Padilla (D-San Fernando Valley), which revises the activities of the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF). The CASF, administered by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), provides grants to bridge the “digital divide” and secure greater broadband services in California’s un-served and underserved areas. Funding for the CASF originates from a modest surcharge that California residents pay on their monthly phone bills...
