Calaveras County Water District Proposes Water and Wastewater Rate Changes

San Andreas, CA...After conducting a thorough review of its revenue and expense requirements, the Calaveras County Water District is proposing a five-year water and wastewater rate change for all residential and commercial customers. The proposal will be considered by the District’s Board of Directors at a Public Hearing on July 10, 2013, and if approved, the rate change will be effective September 1, 2013....

Forest Camping Opens for Memorial Day Weekend

Sonora, Calif. (May 23, 2013)…The Forest Service today announced that 28 Stanislaus National Forest campgrounds and picnic areas will be open to accommodate visitors and campers for this Memorial Day weekend. At some higher elevations this year, a number of campgrounds will open later as the snow melts. All of the Forest’s 53 developed campgrounds, offering 1,466 campsites, are scheduled to be open and available by mid-summer this year....

Angels Camp, CA....Jay E. Quick of Angels Camp passed away peacefully in Modesto with family by his side on 5/21/13 at the age of 82. He was born in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania on 12/11/30 to May & Guy Quick Sr. He has called Calaveras County his home for the past 35 years. Jay and his “Child Bride” Clayre were married in August 18, 1961. They were happily married for 51 years....

San Andreas, CA...During a Statewide convention of the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) on Thursday, May 9th, CCWD Director Bob Dean hosted a panel of scientists as they presented concepts related to developing and monitoring the watersheds. The panel experts, who were led by Dr. Roger Bales, Director of the Sierra Nevada Research Institute, discussed the requirements and methodology needed to measure and monitor the health and productivity of the watersheds in the Sierra. Concepts for managing a productive yield of forest products balanced with enhancing the yield of water were presented. Dr. Bales’ presentation stressed the need for a solid basis of information and suggested tools and resources to develop a blend of data acquisition systems. His presentation stressed that managing water is central to climate preparedness...

Angels Camp, CA....For the second year in a row, Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) has received a generous $5000 donation from Save Mart Supermarket’s charitable organization, Save Mart CARES. These funds benefit the Career and Technical Training (C&TT) Scholarship Fund. Black Oak Casino has continued to grow over the years to the present 186,000 square feet with additions including the new Hotel. Soroptimmist "Take It To Heart" Chili Cook Off A Success

Murphys, CA....Soroptimmist International of Calaveras County held its third annual “Take It To Heart” Chili Cook Off at the Murphys Historic Hotel on May 4. People’s Choice awards were presented in the Best Chili, Best Quirky Sides, and Best Booth categories. There were 14 entrants in the chili category and four in the quirky sides category.


Best Chili winners were Stephanie Woolverton and Linda and Rudy Vallejo of the Tex Mex Trio.


The Best Booth was created by Brian Goss, Kevin Clerico, and Joel Lacitignola of the Murphys Historic Hotel...
