Douglas Flat, CA... We had the pleasure of spending 30 minutes with one of the integral parts of the local wine industry, Gay Callan of Chatom Vineyards. Gay Callan and Chatom Vineyards have been growing and producing great wines here locally in Calaveras County since the early 1980's. Now with over 20 area wineries and more on the way we thought it would be a great time to spend a few minutes getting to know one of the people and businesses that has been here for much of the industry's growth. Gay is a native San Franciscan but her family has deep farming roots in the Central Valley.

Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital Awards Community Grant To Fight Childhood Obesity Today

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital today awarded an $18,475 Catholic Healthcare West Community Grant to the Take It To Heart Foundation, a local not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote a heart-healthy lifestyle in the Mother Lode. The award will be used to implement their ‘Family Fit’ project in all Calaveras and Tuolumne County elementary schools. The ‘Family Fit’ project helps families establish healthier eating habits, live a more active lifestyle, increase fitness and self-esteem, and have fun together. ....

“We’re starting New, You can too” is the Calaveras County Library System theme as the library’s automated circulation system is upgraded on January 25, 2008. Library Director Maurie Hoekstra says the current system is now over 12 years old and lacks the functionality available with new systems today. It has reached “end of life” and is being phased out by the vendor....
