Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain, the Northern Sierra’s premier family skiing and snowboarding resort, today announced it will open one day earlier than planned and will offer a FREE lift ticket on opening day. Bear Valley originally announced plans to open December 21st, 2012. The resort has now opted to push the date to Thursday December 20th, 2012 just in case the mystical prophecy slated for December 21st, 2012 comes true. Free tickets will be issued at the resort on December 20th only, beginning at 9am. The resort plans to operate Kuma, Koala and Cub chair for the day offering a variety of terrain for beginners to expert. The resort is reporting 35 inch base with total snowfall of 84 inches of natural snow for the season and is currently making snow...

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Moves Unemployment Rate Down to 7.7% |

Washington, DC...Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 146,000 in November, and the unemployment rate edged down to 7.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in retail trade, professional and business services, and health care. |Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the Northeast coast on October 29th, causing severe damage in some states. Nevertheless, our survey response rates in the affected states were within normal ranges. Our analysis suggests that Hurricane Sandy did not substantively impact the national employment and unemployment estimates for November...

Calaveras Community Foundation Announces More Grant Winners |

Angels Camp, CA...Eleven local groups have been awarded a total of $21,843 in the second round of 2012 funding by the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF). Grants to these community groups focused on special needs children, building maintenance, scouts, youth mentoring, history in the county, communications and feeding the hungry. Total competitive grants awarded in 2012 equaled $47,642.00...

Statewide Sales and Use Tax Rate Increases January 1, 2013 |

Sacramento – The statewide sales and use tax rate will increase one quarter of one percent (0.25%) from 7.25 percent to 7.50 percent on January 1, 2013. This rate increase was approved by California voters when they approved Proposition 30 on November 6, 2012.

Arnold, CA..On November 30 the Arnold Angels organization held a fund-raising luncheon and fashion show at Snowflake Lodge in Arnold. The fashion show at the luncheon was generously presented by SNAC (Sierra Nevada Adventure Company) with fashions and outdoor equipment modeled by some of the Angels and husbands. Angels Camp, CA...The crowds that huddled under awnings, overhangs and umbrellas brought a festive mood and a steely resolve to make sure that Holiday Parade and other festivities in Historic Angels Camp went on as billed. Saturday Afternoon's Parade marked the Official Start of the Christmas Season in Angels Camp. There were bands, beauty queens, dancing by crossing guard Bill and much more. To top things off Santa & Mrs Clause arrived by fire truck and took their tour through town and them posed for picture after picture at the Calaveras Visitors Bureau where not only Santa was festive but it was there 25th Anniversary Open House.
