Japanese Educators Visit V.U.S.D. to See Student iPad Use |

Avery, CA...Educators from the Okinawa Amicus International School in Japan recently paid a visit to Hazel Fischer Elementary School and Avery Middle School, an Apple Distinguished School, to see first-hand how the two schools are implementing one-on-one student iPad computing in grades K-8. The Japanese teachers had read in the popular Japanese interior design and lifestyle magazine, Casa Brutus, about Hazel Fischer's iPad implementation in a feature article about the 5th grade class and its collaboration with the tech lab coordinator at the school. During their visit, they also explored policies and practices that facilitate students at Avery Middle School taking home and using school iPads for even greater access to one-to-one computing.

Angels Camp, CA...Between now and Friday, November 5, anyone over the age of 21 can enter the Calaveras Visitor Bureau’s Adventure Land Photo Contest for a chance to win a huge prize valued at $1500. All you have to do is submit your “Best of Calaveras” photo via the contest platform on our Facebook Page. What are we looking for? Photos must depict Calaveras County in a fun and/or positive light. Railroad Flat, CA...The Friends of Rail Road Flat School would like to publicly acknowledge and thank the Calaveras Community Foundation for including us in their 2012 grant awards. Since conception in 2010 TFORRFS has worked tirelessly to keep this 116 year old blue ribbon school open and to uphold our Mission - to enhance learning by implementing activities that will result in increased student success while creating and maintaining a stewardship with the community and preserving the rights of children to be educated in the community in which they live. This program offers classes to students during and after school in Art, Drama, Construction, Gardening, Sports, Sewing and Weaving, Food Preparation, Dance, Music, Storytelling, Ceramics, Poetry, Photography, Sign Language, Mural-Painting, and more.. As this program is run solely on fundraising, grant writing, and small donations, the majority of the equipment and supplies are available in only limited numbers. Through this grant we are able to purchase an adequate supply of new state – of- the - art equipment; much needed new supplies, and provide participation opportunities to more children of the community.
