Murphys, CA...It's election season and in addition to the Presidential and Supervisors Races we also here locally have those vying for spots on what in many cases elected positions that may hold more significance to the future of our area and it's residences than the more visible ones. Last weekend VUSD School Board candidate Tom Pratt held a fundraiser at The Garden in Murphys and we thought we would stop by to hear what the candidate had to say...
SAN ANDREAS, CA – The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) began the construction process of building their new operations headquarters building just four short months ago in the heat of the summer. Since the start of construction, Simile Construction Service, Inc. (Simile) has been utilizing 70-80% of local Calaveras County subcontractors. “The building progress is running smoothly, on-time and without any change orders” said Lynn Gentry, Interim General Manager, during the District’s Thursday Board Meeting. Simile expects to have the roof on, the building weather tight, and all outside work completed before the wet winter months. Doing this will allow Simile to complete the interior finish work during the winter months to stay on target for completion in April of 2013...

San Andreas, CA...The Citizens for a Better Calaveras will be holding a candidates forum on October 25, 2012. The CBC is comprised of the following organizations, Calaveras County Fair, Calaveras County Arts Council, Calaveras Humane Society, Calaveras Visitor’s Bureau, Senior Centers of Calaveras, Friends of the Calaveras Library and Calaveras County Parks and Recreation. The coalition is working together to enhance the future of their organizations by redefining the Transient Occupancy Tax.

If you own a cabin in Calaveras County, you're most likely used to experiencing power outages multiple times during the winter months. When we lived in snow country, we had our share of power blips--from hours to even days without the ability to run our furnace, flush our toilets, or even have cold food in the refrigerator...
The Calaveras County Deputy Sheriff’s Association establishes a new donor advised fund with a $3000 donation to the Calaveras Community Foundation.

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras Community Foundation has received a $3000 check from the Calaveras Deputy Sheriff’s Association. The DSA is an affiliation of sworn deputies and personnel from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department. They independently raise funds for causes that benefit and promote public safety in the County. They also work with schools to provide extracurricular activities and provide scholarships for students wishing to pursue a law enforcement career....

Angels Camp, CA...A Special Meeting for Business & Property Owners! Signs, Parking & More Moving Forward for Better Business Monday, October 8, 2012, 5:30 social; 6:00 program. Do you know Any and every sign, banner, A-frame, etc in Angels Camp must have a sign permit? Any sign in the historic downtown must be approved by the Planning Commission? There are size restrictions on total signage for many buildings? Approved ‘temporary’ signs and banners have a time limitation? The City is beginning to work on enforcing the sign ordinance? The City Council is currently reviewing a proposed off-street parking ordinance?
