Posted by: John_Hamilton on 09/07/2012 08:05 AM
Mokelumne Hill, CA...The Historic Hotel Leger in Mokelumne Hill is excited to announce that we have been selected to host a TV crew from The Travel Channel, who will be filming an episode of "Hotel Impossible" about our Hotel during the week of September 13-18th. Ashley Canty, owner of the Hotel Leger since 2002, has been in meetings with designers and producers of the hit TV show for a few weeks and has just received final confirmation that it's a "go!". The production crew and county representatives will be here to film and coordinate improvements to the locally beloved Hotel. We have been assured and asked for names and numbers so that only local contractors and service providers will be utilized. The Historic Hotel, Bar and Restaurant and the town of Mokelumne Hill will receive a much appreciated boost, as will the entire Calaveras County area...

Angels Camp Centennial Celebrations Set for September 28 & 29

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 09/06/2012 10:03 AM
Angels Camp, CA....The main event in the historic Gold Rush town of Angels Camp’s year-long celebration of its 100th anniversary as an incorporated city is set for September 29 when a Street Fair from 11 am to 4 pm will close Main Street (State Highway 49) for the first time in over 50 years. The Street Fair may well be the largest event held on Main Street since the frog jumps were held there in the 1920s and ‘30s. The Street Fair will include Western gun fights, a frog jump, an old-fashioned soap box derby, pony rides, vendors of all descriptions, street performers, lots of food and drink concessions, and a variety of music stretched from the historic downtown to Utica Park....

Bear Valley Update....Nothing Yet

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/06/2012 02:33 PM
Bear Valley, CA...The tea leaves are still being read and divinations made but there is still not a firm answer from Bear Valley on the upcoming season. Most people in positions to know still think they will be under operation when it matters. This we do know is that the partners are talking and an agreeable solution is being worked on. Without going down the rumor path too far it should be realistic to expect a decision close to September 15th....

Local 25 Year Old Lydia Stafford Building an Impressive Wine Industry Resume. ~By John Hamilton

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 09/04/2012 02:55 PM
Murphys, CA....We had the pleasure of interviewing Lydia Stafford this morning. She just returned home from working at Whitehaven Vineyards down under in New Zealand. Since it has been winter there she may have bee just coming home to get some warm weather as well. Prior to that she worked in Sonoma for B. R. Cohn Winery and she started her resume building at Renner Winery here locally. She has consistantly been moving up the winery size scale from under 2,000 cases a year at Renner, 100k Plus at B.R. Cohn to 350k plus at Whitehaven. Not bad for a young lady that stated her carreer path at the Calaveras County Visitors Bureau. The 2005 Bret Harte graduate has been on the production and marketing sides of the industry and would like to focus on the marketing side and just narrowly missed out possibly because of age on one of the premier marketing spots in the industry....

Monetary Policy since the Onset of the Crisis ~By Fed Chair Ben S. Bernanke

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 09/02/2012 05:34 PM
Jackson Hole, WY....When we convened in Jackson Hole in August 2007, the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) target for the federal funds rate was 5-1/4 percent. Sixteen months later, with the financial crisis in full swing, the FOMC had lowered the target for the federal funds rate to nearly zero, thereby entering the unfamiliar territory of having to conduct monetary policy with the policy interest rate at its effective lower bound. The unusual severity of the recession and ongoing strains in financial markets made the challenges facing monetary policymakers all the greater....
