The Calaveras Visitors Bureau participated in the Bay Area Travel & Adventure Show this past weekend in Santa Clara to spread the word about Calaveras County and all it has to offer to adventurous travelers. The CVB had an exciting opportunity to partner with Cave & Mine Adventures and share a booth at the show to distribute information about the audaciously unique experiences to be discovered in Calaveras County. Fourteen additional partners representing various areas of the county, including Valley Springs, Mokelumne Hill, Murphys, Angels Camp and Arnold joined forces with the CVB and Cave & Mine Adventures to have their materials distributed at the show....

Angels Camp, CA...In another twist in the Visitors Center Saga in Angels Camp...According to City Clerk Mary Kelly, there will be two proposals on the table at the personnel and finance committee meeting on February 7th. One from the Calaveras Visitors Bureau and one from the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce. Representatives from both organizations will be on had to make their cases for the best use of the Visitors Center currently being run by the Calaveras Visitors Bureau...

Sonora, CA....Attention: all owners of diesel on-road vehicles (trucks and buses), off-road vehicles (tractors), and diesel equipment owners. Diesel emission rules have changed. A free two-hour public workshop will be held on Monday, February 14 to explain the changes in diesel compliance, what vehicles qualify for the agricultural vehicle extension, and to demonstrate how to submit your report to the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB staff will make the presentation and be available for questions. The workshop is hosted by the Tuolumne County Farm Bureau from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Opera Hall at 250 South Washington Street in Sonora.....

Washington, DC...The unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage point to 9.4 percent in December, and nonfarm payroll employment increased by 103,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment rose in leisure and hospitality and in health care but was little changed in other major industries... |

Washington, DC...The internet is slowly closing in on television as Americans’ main source of national and international news. Currently, 41% say they get most of their news about national and international news from the internet, which is little changed over the past two years but up 17 points since 2007. Television remains the most widely used source for national and international news – 66% of Americans say it is their main source of news – but that is down from 74% three years ago and 82% as recently as 2002....

Construction Spending Up For Third Straight Month |

Washington, DC...The U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that construction spending during November 2010 was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $810.2 billion, 0.4 percent (±1.6%)* above the revised October estimate of $806.7 billion. The November figure is 6.0 percent (±1.9%) below the November 2009 estimate of $861.5 billion. During the first 11 months of this year, construction spending amounted to $753.9 billion, 10.6 percent (±1.0%) below the $843.1 billion for the same period in 2009...
