Harvard Scientists Film Bacteria’s Maneuvers As They Become Impervious To Drugs

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/12/2016 11:02 PM
Boston, MA....This is the best visualization of the progression of antibiotic-resistant bacteria we have ever seen.  The following is from the Harvard Medical School that should have all of us cutting back on the antibiotics.  "In a creative stroke inspired by Hollywood wizardry, scientists from Harvard Medical School and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have designed a simple way to observe how bacteria move as they become impervious to drugs.  The experiments, described in the Sept. 9 issue of Science, are thought to provide the first large-scale glimpse of the maneuvers of bacteria as they encounter increasingly higher doses of antibiotics and adapt to survive—and thrive—in them.

My Life, My Choice, My Hospice Is Hospice Of Amador & Calaveras

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/08/2016 01:40 PM
Amador & Calaveras Counties, CA...Hospice is a concept of care that treats the person, not the disease, and emphasizes quality of life, not the duration. Since 1982, Hospice of Amador and Calaveras has been working to meet the needs of those nearing the end of their lives. Hospice care neither hastens nor postpones death but exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care, patients with life-limiting illnesses may live their remaining days pain-free and with dignity, and their families may accept and find their own new beginnings.

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/19/2016 12:51 PM
Murphys, CA...Doris Murphy Barger passed away peacefully on August 19, 2016 at the age of 93. She departed this world in the manner she lived her life – with strength, grace and dignity. She was a remarkable woman who lived a wonderful life. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her two sons Walter (Gretchen) and Stephen (Mary);, her four grandchildren Kimberly Durand (Mike), Krissy Clark (Doug), Sarah Ranney (Mike) and Benjamin Barger; and four great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband Richard preceded her in death. They met at age 9 as both families had summer cabins on the American River. Dick would rent Doris’ horse and they fell in love ten years later while both were at Stanford University.

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/05/2016 09:35 AM
Sacramento, CA...The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reported wednesday that two infants with Zika-related microcephaly have been born in California to women who had Zika virus infections during pregnancy after spending time in a country where the virus is endemic. While mosquitoes that can carry the virus have been found in 12 California counties, there is no evidence these mosquitoes are transmitting Zika in the state at this time.
