Orlando, FL...The thoughts and deepest sympathies of the entire American Red Cross family are with the people of Orlando and those affected by Sunday morning’s tragic shooting. Local Red Cross volunteers are supporting emergency responders by providing snacks and water, and the Red Cross is coordinating closely with local officials to determine how we can best support the affected community over the coming days and weeks.

San Andreas, CA...Association of California Healthcare Districts (ACHD) is pleased to report Mark Twain Healthcare District has achieved designation as a Certified Healthcare District. As public agencies, California’s Healthcare Districts have well-defined legal obligations for conducting business in a transparent and responsible manner. To be designated as a Certified Healthcare District, a District must demonstrate compliance with Best Practices in Governance as defined by ACHD. Compliance areas include transparency, ethics, reporting, purchasing, conflict of interest, requesting public funds, and executive compensation. These Best Practice criteria address the obligations that Healthcare Districts have with respect to conducting business in manner that is transparent to the public being served.

Senate Unanimously Passes Ignition Lock Drunk Driving Legislation |

Sacramento, CA...Yesterday, the California Senate unanimously approved SB 1046 by Senator Jerry Hill, which would require ignition interlocks for all drunk driving offenders in California. Currently, ignition interlocks are required in only four California counties as part of a pilot program: Alameda, Los Angeles, Tulare and Sacramento.
