San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 6th Annual Health Fair and Lupus Fun/Run Walk on Saturday, March 28th from 8am until noon at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. Over forty community health related service groups will participate in this community-wide event. A wealth of information will be available on topics such as senior health services, health insurance, nutrition, and fitness. Low cost testing and services include Blood Analysis ($45), and Bone Density Screenings ($10). In addition to the five-panel blood analysis (this test consists of a chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, iron for women, and PSA for men), the Medical Center will also now screen for vitamin D deficiencies....

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Hospice of the Sierra is looking for volunteers in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and is offering orientation and training for those who are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer. The orientation session will occur on April 9, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hospice of the Sierra’s Sonora office located at 20100 Cedar Road North.

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center hosted the February Chamber mixer at their new Heart Center. Introduced and welcomed was Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio. MTMC rolled out the red carpet for the event with great food and even gifts for attendees. State Senator Tom Berryhill was also in attendance and some of you may not know he is now a local resident having moved from Ceres to Twain Harte. Two Patients After "Superbug" Infection At UCLA Medical Center

Los Angeles, CA...The UCLA Health System has notified more than 100 patients that they may have been infected by a “superbug” bacteria during complex endoscopic procedures that took place between October 2014 and January 2015. The patients are being offered free home testing kits that would be analyzed at UCLA...
Washington, DC...The 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, a group of prestigious outside experts, submitted its recommendations to Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, in order to inform the 2015 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Today, the Secretaries have released the advisory committee's recommendations report online, making it available for public review and comment. The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) will consider this report, along with input from other federal agencies and comments from the public as they develop the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2015, to be released later this year.

Sutter Creek, CA – California Department of Public Health confirms 117 cases of measles in the state to date. There are no cases currently in Amador County. Amador County Public Health continues to monitor the outbreak and recognizes that it may continue to spread in California. “This is a good reminder of the importance of vaccination,” states Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer. “Measles is a very contagious and potentially severe vaccine-preventable disease that spreads through the air and by contact with an infected person.”
