Murphys, CA... Kirstie Mize is a senior at Bret Harte and her senior project was "Ribs for Kids". This was a fundraiser that was held last Saturday in Murphys Park. All proceeds benefited the American Diabetes Association in looking for a cure for juvenile type 1 diabetes. It was another great afternoon in Murphys Park. Murphys, CA...Prizes will be awarded in twelve categories for the fastest times when the second annual Off the Beaten Path – Walk/Run for Autism Awareness is held Saturday, April 27 under the auspices of Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders. Male and female runners in the five mile event will compete in six age groups: 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 35, 36 to 50, 51 to 65, and over 65. Murphys resident Brian Dusquenel, a retired CHP officer and metal sculptor, is creating the specially designed awards...

Angels Camp, CA...Towns are becoming awash in purple, thanks to efforts by volunteers from the American Cancer Society’s annual “Relay For Life,” a community campout against cancer. Throughout Calaveras County, towns, schools, and businesses are “painting our towns purple” to celebrate cancer survivorship and bring attention to the yearly event, which will be held on April 27th at Bret Harte High School....

Angels Camp, CA...On April 13th the Bret Harte Campus's age demographic skewed down just a bit. The Annual Children's Fair sponsored by The Resource Connection was back and had all sorts of activities and information for our areas younger residents. Attendance was Free and there was a Kid's Farmer's Market, Arts and Crafts, Outdoor Activities, Entertainment, Snacks and Food and much more. Below are some photos of what you missed....

Murphys, CA...Bret Harte graduate Andrew Weathers recently addressed the Angels/Murphys Rotary at Ironstone Winery about Vision Care the medical device that the company he is with. VisionCare makes and markets a mini telescope eye implant that helps some end stage macular degeneration patients see. It is FDA approved and Medicare covers the treatment costs. Locally UC Davis put one in a Pollock Pines woman in 2012 The patient does need to meet pretty stringent criteria but the results can be remarkable. Andrew was asked by his Grandfather and Rotary Member Larry Byrnes to come up and speak. The device and the company are getting extensive press coverage and have additional information on the technology behind the device enclosed...

Written by Mark Wilson, directed by Terri Wilson, the hour-long play uses the actual words of the people portrayed to tell its stories. It has poignancy laced with humor. Fresno to be Site for Covered California Call Center

Sacramento, CA...Covered California announced today that Fresno will be the location for one of three state-of-the-art call centers that will handle questions from Californians, and help them understand the new health benefits available through the Affordable Care Act. Almost 500 staff will be hired and trained at the Fresno call center to assist consumers with online purchasing of Covered California health insurance products. The center will open in the fall, with the location to be announced soon.
