Mark Twain Medical Center's Fall Health+ Community Resources Fair is September 30th!

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center will hold its 23rd Annual Fall Health and Community Resources Fair Saturday, September 30, 7am - Noon at the Hospital Campus. A wealth of information will be available on senior support and health services, health insurance information, long term and short term care. Also participating are experts in chronic disease management, mental health, nutrition and personal well-being. Low cost health screening and services include the five-panel blood analysis, including chemistry panel, thyroid, complete blood count, lipid panel, iron for women, PSA for men, and vitamin D deficiencies for $45. Those participating in the blood analysis should fast after 10PM the night before. Flu shots will be offered at no cost.

FDA Approves Updated mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines

Washington, DC...Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration took action approving and authorizing for emergency use updated COVID-19 vaccines formulated to more closely target currently circulating variants and to provide better protection against serious consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death. Today’s actions relate to updated mRNA vaccines for 2023-2024 manufactured by ModernaTX Inc. and Pfizer Inc. Consistent with the totality of the evidence and input from the FDA’s expert advisors, these vaccines have been updated to include a monovalent (single) component that corresponds to the Omicron variant XBB.1.5.

West Nile Virus Case Confirmed in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Public Health Communicable Disease Program has confirmed one human case of West Nile Virus (WNV). This is the first case reported in Calaveras County in 2023. “The most important aspect of West Nile virus is prevention and awareness. Any possible mosquito reservoirs, carrying infection must be eliminated,” said Dr. René Ramirez, Health Officer. "The best way to avoid West Nile Virus infection is to take precautionary measures to avoid mosquito bites.”
