What is Your Fitness Level? |
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/11/2014 02:57 PM

Angels Camp, CA...Determining your health and fitness depends on five things, body composition, muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and muscular power. Using numbers like BMI, or the body mass index alone, only takes into account a person’s height and weight. It’s possible to have low body fat and high muscle mass, and therefore a higher weight, which could categorize someone as overweight or obese when that’s really not the case. It’s better to look at the five elements and think about both health and fitness, rather than simply rely on your BMI or the number on your scale....

Sonora Regional Medical Center Names MAKOplasty® Robot |
Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/22/2014 01:20 PM
|
Sonora, CA ...The Center for Joint Replacement and its panel of orthopedic surgeons have selected the name MaRIO as the winning entry for the MAKOplasty® robot. Sonora Regional Medical Center employee Poline King submitted the winning name. The assembly of surgeons received over 170 suggestions over the course of five weeks. The name is based on the highly advanced, surgeon-controlled robotic arm system, RIO®, used to perform MAKOplasty® procedures. The RIO® system enables the surgeon to complete a patient specific pre-surgical plan using a CT scan of the patient’s knee. During the procedure, the system creates a three-dimensional, virtual view of the patient’s bone surface and correlates the image to the pre-programmed surgical plan. As the surgeon uses the robotic arm, the RIO® system provides tactile, auditory and visual feedback, limiting the bone preparation to just the diseased areas. This process helps preserve more of the patient’s knee while providing optimal positioning of the implant.
