Black Oak Casino Donates to Santa’s Express & The Resource Connection

San Andreas, CA....Santa’s Express and The Resource Connection Food Bank would like to take a moment to acknowledge a donation to Santa’s Express from Black Oak Casino and the Calaveras Community Foundation in the amount of $250.00 to go towards the Santa’s Express Event. “We are grateful for the donation from Black Oak Casino through the Calaveras Community Foundation,” said Jeannie Hayward, Food Bank Director. “Santa’s Express is in full swing and we are expecting to serve between 1200 and 1300 families in Calaveras County and every penny counts! The Santa’s Express Distribution is on December 20th at three sites in Calaveras County – The Resource Connection Food Bank in San Andreas, Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families in West Point and Faith Lutheran Church/Murphys Senior Center parking lot in Murphys. We distribute a whole holiday food basket, which will include turkeys or hams, fresh produce and lots of food from our community Santa’s Express Food Drive. We also distribute toys for children 0-11 and coats and jackets for youth 12 -17.” Interested in donating? Please contact the Food Bank at 209-754-1257.

Murphys, CA...The 7th Annual Klassen's Turkey Trot filled Murphys Community Park early on Thanksgiving morning. There was music, great t-shirts, donations for the food bank and a great way to get the holiday of on the right foot. The event keeps growing every year and most people seemed to put the crowd in the 600 range for this informal event....

Calaveras, CA...As California’s economy continues to recover and parents are entering the workforce in increasing numbers, access to affordable, high quality child care is essential. Working families depend on child care programs which also provide learning experiences critical to their children’s development. Yet, according to the 2013 California Child Care Portfolio, a report released today by the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, in Calaveras County there are just over 909 licensed child care spaces available to serve an estimated 3,178 children whose parents are in the workforce. For families able to find child care that does meet their needs, all too often high costs limit their ability to access that care....
