Fresno to be Site for Covered California Call Center

Sacramento, CA...Covered California announced today that Fresno will be the location for one of three state-of-the-art call centers that will handle questions from Californians, and help them understand the new health benefits available through the Affordable Care Act. Almost 500 staff will be hired and trained at the Fresno call center to assist consumers with online purchasing of Covered California health insurance products. The center will open in the fall, with the location to be announced soon.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops Starting in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...A new six-week workshop series to teach residents with chronic diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes skills to better manager their conditions is starting April 18 in Angels Camp. Family members and partners are also welcome at the no cost workshops sponsored by the Calaveras County Public Health Department. "This is an opportunity for people to gain skills and confidence in managing their chronic condition," Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer said in announcing the workshops...

Next "Drop The Drugs" Day is April 27th

San Andreas, CA.. Calaveras Community members can prevent prescription and other drug misuse and abuse by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted drugs on April 27th, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations in the county. A “Drop the Drugs” event is being presented by Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention. The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked. This is the third year in which the United States Drug Enforcement Ad ministration (DEA) and more than 3,000 state and local law enforcement partners, including Calaveras County have hosted prescription drug take back days in Spring and Fall.

Second Annual Off The Beaten Path Walk for Autism Awareness April 27

Murphys, CA...Prizes will be awarded in twelve categories for the fastest times when the second annual Off the Beaten Path – Walk/Run for Autism Awareness is held Saturday, April 27 under the auspices of Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders. Male and female runners in the five mile event will compete in six age groups: 12 and under, 13 to 19, 20 to 35, 36 to 50, 51 to 65, and over 65. Murphys resident Brian Dusquenel, a retired CHP officer and metal sculptor, is creating the specially designed awards....

Angels Camp, CA...April 2, 2013, In its 12th year, walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Calaveras County. Teams of Calaveras County residents will gather at Bret Harte High School on April 27th at 9:00 a.m. for an overnight relay against cancer. Relay For Life is a family-oriented team event where participants walk relay-style around the track and take part in fun activities off the track. Teams can include coworkers, club members, family, and friends that have gathered donations prior to the event....

Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Hospice of the Sierra To Host Volunteer Training Sessions

(March 20, 2013) – Hospice of the Sierra will host a two-day volunteer training session on April 6 and April 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hospice of the Sierra, 20100 Cedar Road, in Sonora. Volunteers will learn how to provide respite care for patients and families, and about opportunities to help with bereavement support, clerical and other special projects. You can be an important part of the hospice interdisciplinary team and find gratifying and stimulating work with patients and families at a critical time in their lives by becoming a volunteer for Hospice of the Sierra.
