Ribbon Cutting Held For the New and Improved Family Medical Center

Angels Camp, CA...The construction and expansion of the Family Medical Center in Angels Camp is complete, so what better way to celebrate than a ribbon cutting ceremony! On February 1st the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce was on hand at the Family Medical Center to cut the ribbon. The Family Medical Center, located in Angels Towne Shopping Center is one of four Family Medical Centers in the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital system. County Supervisor Tom Tryon and Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce President Jack Boeding were among the persons on hand for the celebration. Food was catered by “Carmen’s”, the hospital’s cafe. Family Medical Center Administrative Director and Chamber Director Linda Weist made the introduction to the project....

Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Gets Ready For an Outbreak

San Andreas, CA...A functional Emergency Management Exercise was held at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital on January 29th. The purpose of the exercise was to test the hospital’s ability to react to a community disaster; in this case an influx of patients who have flu-like symptoms and may be infectious. Regional Occupational Program (ROP) students portrayed as patients began arriving at the Emergency Department at 5:30 a.m. Objectives of the exercise included following proper protocols for identifying infectious patients, proper isolation of infectious patients, timely implementation of an Incident Command Center and notification to the county’s Public Health Department, access to resources such as staff and supplies, designation of an alternative care site for the influx of patients and timely identification of the disease. The exercise lasted until noon....
