Posted by: thepinetree on 12/09/2013 02:03 PM
San Andreas, CA...On Monday, December 9, 2013, at 8:00 AM, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) moved into open burning. Burning will be permitted 24 hours a day on “Permissive Burn Days” as established by the Air Pollution Control District (APCD) in each county. CAL FIRE burn permits will not be required until May 1, 2014 (or earlier if conditions require). Landowners may be held liable if their fire escapes their control. Remain in attendance of your fire, keep a water supply close to the burning site and do not burn when windy, or when high winds are predicted. Mountain Ranchers will be relieved to learn that disaster to our Town Hall has been averted.

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/21/2013 08:07 PM
Mountain Ranch, CA....Mountain Ranchers will be relieved to learn that disaster to our Town Hall has been averted. Since this Hall was built, water drainage (from the roof and the road) has severely threatened the stability of the hall foundation. Every year a sink hole next to the building has expanded where pooling water from Blacksmith Ave has undercut the foundation. Rain from the roof has exacerbated this problem....

Murphys Ranchers Make Large Donation of Local Ranch Raised Beef to the Food Bank

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/20/2013 05:37 PM
San Andreas, CA...November 20, 2013 — John and Michelle Rugo of Murphys have been donating ranch raised beef to the Food Bank over the past years. They recently read an article about food needs in Calaveras County and decided to do something about it. They brought in 160 pounds of fresh hamburger and steaks to the Food Bank. They have been long-time supporters of many organizations in the community and Michelle was on the initial Food Bank Community Garden Committee. “We are so grateful for the donation,” said Jeannie Hayward, Food Bank director. “We don’t get a lot of fresh meat because it is so expensive to purchase. We just got green and red bell peppers in – so we will be handing out the hamburger and peppers with a stuffed pepper recipe.”

Rim Fire Ranchers Relief Benefit November 23rd

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/27/2013 02:19 AM
Sonora, CA...For decades, the natural water sources and abundant vegetation of Stanislaus National Forest have served as ideal grazing land for grass-fed cattle in the summer months. About 4,000 cows were ranging there when the Rim Fire ignited August 17. After burning 257,314 acres the Rim Fire is now fully contained over two months after it was ignited. There were eleven homes, three commercial properties and 98 outbuilding destroyed in the flames. Miles of fencing destroyed and many of the Ranchers have over 100 head each confirmed dead and even more believed to be dead, and the near future of grazing in the forest up in the air, the cattle industry is another victim of the massive blaze on the west edge of Yosemite.
