Jamestown, CA...Families, friends and rail fans are encouraged to make plans to visit Railtown 1897 State Historic Park on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017! The historic park offers a great place to celebrate the holiday with an egg hunt for children, train rides behind a historic diesel locomotive, hands-on crafts and an opportunity to meet the Easter bunny. To accommodate the various ages of children, there will be an egg hunt for ages 4 and under, one for ages 5 to 7 and another for ages 8 to 11. With special activities happening all day long, the egg hunt begins at 9:30 a.m. and excursion train rides behind 1952 Baldwin Whitcomb No.1265 historic diesel locomotive depart at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Red Cross Is Recruiting For The Disaster Action Team

Calaveras County, CA...Ask the average person about the American Red Cross and chances are they will mention disasters like fires and floods. But the majority of the disasters the American Red Cross here in Calaveras County responds to are single-family house fires, which affect families locally. Since last Christmas, Amador has responded 4 times; Calaveras has responded 9 times; and, Tuolumne has responded 2 times to assist families (23 adults and 12 children) that were devastated by a house fire.

Yosemite National Park & Yosemite Conservancy Launch New Website To Protect Bears With First-Ever Online Bear Tracker

Yosemite National Park, CA...Yosemite National Park and Yosemite Conservancy today announced the launch of KeepBearsWild.org, a new website to protect the park’s iconic black bears. The website features the National Park Service’s first online bear tracker, information on ways for the public to help save bears, and eye-opening photography and videos not before available to the public.

Angels Camp, CA...The Mother Lode Theatre celebrated its grand opening on February 9, 1924 with a miniature review accompanied by a five-piece orchestra. The Theatre was remodeled in 1927 to accommodate "talkies" or moving pictures. It was again remodeled in 1935 and the name eventually was changed to Angels Theatre as it remains today.

Snowpack’s Water Content Remains Far Above Average

Sacramento, CA...– With every monthly measurement of the California snowpack this winter, the state’s rebound from the previous five years of drought becomes more evident. Today’s electronic readings from 95 sites in the Sierra Nevada show an
average statewide snow water equivalent (SWE) of 45.8 inches, or 164 percent of the historical average for March 30 (27.9 inches).
