$10,000 Contribution from A-T &-T to Support EPCTC’s Small Business Training Program

SONORA, CA – December 14, 2010. The Economic Prosperity Council of Tuolumne County (EPCTC) today announced it had received a $10,000 contribution from A-T&-T to support the organization’s training program for small business. The Economic Prosperity Council will use the contribution from A-T&-T to fund the purchase of ten laptop computers and associated business software. Apple’s innovations are constantly making exciting news with new gadgets and software as will be evident during the next meeting of the Sierra Macintosh Users Group (SMUG) to be held Tuesday, November 9 beginning at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the Ebbetts Pass Fire District, 1037 Blagen Rd., just off Highway 4. Brian Thomas, Technology Specialist and Trainer for the Calaveras County Office of Education will be making the presentation and leading the discussion. He will explore some of Apple’s latest products and share some of the coolest features of iLife ’11 and conduct a comprehensive demonstration of IPhoto ’11. As is always the case with these meetings, there will be subjects covered and questions answered that are not on the agenda....

Jamestown, CA...California Public Utilities Commission announcement of a $6,659,967 matching grant from the California Advanced Services Fund to the Central Valley Independent Network project. The project will bring improved high speed internet access to the central valley region and Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties. Golden State Cellular owners Volcano Telephone, Calaveras Telephone and Sierra Telephone are partners in the CVIN....
Raytheon unveils lighter, faster, stronger second generation exoskeleton robotic suit

TEWSKBURY, Mass..Raytheon Company unveiled its second generation Exoskeleton (XOS 2) at its research facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, during a demonstration with Paramount Home Entertainment. The new robotic suit is lighter, faster and stronger than its predecessor, yet it uses 50 percent less power. Its enhanced design also means that it is more resistant to the environment...
Avery, CA...Last Thursday night the Avery Middle School Library was filled with parents, students and technology fans attending a presentation on the new iPad program for 6-8th graders at Avery. The Vallecito School district is stepping out to the cutting edge for technology in the classroom and for their students. While there will no doubt be some naysayers as to the cost it may actually provide cost savings over the long run. The plan is to start pushing course materials to the devices and save on textbooks. This can provide some very real cost savings..

SMUG To Explore Time Machine During September Meeting

Arnold, CA....Time Machine, the program that allows Apple users to back up valuable data, will be the subject of the next meeting of the Sierra Macintosh Users Group (SMUG) to be held Tuesday, September 14 beginning at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the Ebbetts Pass Fire District, 1037 Blagen Rd., just off Highway 4. “One of the biggest reasons to choose Time Machine to create archives is its ease of use,” states club member Phill Hoxie who will make the presentation. “Apple says it takes just one click to set it up, which may be true in rare cases, but usually there is a bit more involved.”...
Golden State Cellular Announces: Expanded Mobile Broadband Coverage Multiple Sites

Golden State Cellular announces the addition of 3G Mobile Broadband to existing cell sites at the following locations: Strawberry Peak, Copper Cove, Mt. Reba, Big Oak Flat, Murphys, Rushing Mountain, Pino Blanco (Coulterville), Hwy 4/49 intersection Angels Camp and Yosemite Village. With customers increasing appetite for mobile data applications such as: email, internet access and picture messaging, 3G Mobile Broadband provides a more robust data experience with higher data rates (speed) and the ability to transfer larger files, stream video and music. The company is scheduled to add the technology to multiple existing sites before the end of 2010.....

Now you will be able to browse, message, and move those large files at breakneck speed. Data roaming is moving closer as well with an September roll out. CPUC Approves Broadband Grant for Calaveras Poker Flat Project

SAN FRANCISCO, July 29, 2010 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved a matching grant of $640,698 from the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) to the Calaveras Telephone Company’s Poker Flat project to bring high-speed Internet access to isolated, underserved communities on Lake Tulloch in the Sierra foothills. The CPUC’s CASF matching grant, which is 10 percent of the total cost of $6,406,976, is contingent upon approval of a 64 percent matching grant of $4.08 million from the $7.2 billion broadband stimulus portion of the federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. The balance of $1.68 million for the project will be provided by Calaveras Telephone from its own capital sources....
