Winter Driving Tips From The County Roads Department |

San Andreas, CA...Severe weather can be both frightening and dangerous for automobile travel. Motorists should know the safety rules for dealing with winter road emergencies. The Calaveras County Public Works Department reminds motorists to be cautious while driving in adverse weather. Calaveras County Public Works recommends the following winter driving tips: Avoid driving while you’re fatigued. Getting the proper amount of rest before taking on winter weather tasks reduces driving risks. Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage. Make certain your tires are properly inflated. Keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-up. Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface (wet, ice, sand). Always look and steer where you want to go. Use your seat belt every time you get into your vehicle. Carry a survival kit containing blankets or sleeping bag, water, small shovel and a flashlight in case of vehicle breakdown or becoming stuck in the snow...

The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program Celebrates Ten Years of Supporting Friendships and Building Community. |

Angels Camp, CA...This month, the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is celebrating ten years of supporting friendships and building community. Donna Shannon and Tina Miller were the first mentor and mentee matched in the Mentoring Program in 2003, and on December 18th they will celebrate their tenth anniversary as friends. “It has been a joy to witness the beauty and growth in Donna and Tina’s friendship over the years,” said Kathryn Eustis, Director of Youth Development and Prevention Programs at the Calaveras County Office of Education. “We are so grateful that they have continued to participate in and support the program all this time. How many mentoring programs get to showcase their inaugural match at their tenth anniversary?”

Beatrice (Bea) Frisk Miller 1921 - 2013 |

Avery, CA...Beatrice (Bea) Frisk Miller was born January 17th, 1921 in Mountain Grove, Mo. to Harry E Frisk and Mary Gosvener Frisk. She was the second oldest of eleven brothers and sisters. She married April 7th 1939 to Roy Patrick Miller in Oakdale, CA. After marriage, the couple had two sons Gene Miller and Vernon Miller. Bea passed away on November 28th, 2013 at her home in Avery, California surrounded by her loving family members. Bea is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Roy Patrick Miller, sisters Hazel Avis Frisk and Berniece Smith, brothers Harry (Gene) Frisk and Charles (Merle) Frisk....

White Pines, CA...This is the fifth in a series of news to the community from the Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge. As a forty year member of this greater Arnold Area, we enjoy the support we receive from all of the residents. Bingo will resume next March, we want to thank all of you that participated in this wonderful event. Our Lodge is located at the end of Blagen Road, across from the beautiful White Pines Lake. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. Tonight A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 5. East northeast wind 6 to 11 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible...
