Nature's air conditioning is functioning well at higher elevations with Lake Alpine forecast to be 27 degrees cooler. Today Mostly sunny. Highs 73 to 88 higher elevations...87 to 97 lower elevations. Prevailing east winds up to 10 mph shifting to the southwest in the afternoon. Tonight Clear. Lows 47 to 62 higher elevations...57 to 72 lower elevations. Prevailing west winds 5 to 15 mph shifting to the east after midnight....

Avery, CA...The Avery Middle School held their 8th grade graduation last Thursday night. With the pine trees and mountains in the background it was an idyllic setting for another great group of our local now young adults to take another step on their education career. The 70 young graduates were resplendent in their robes and are now ready to march forward into high school....

Murphys, CA...Quick work by crews kept a fire on Hwy 4 at 1/4 acre. Knowing that a fire in this area had the potential to not only grow rapidly but also cause significant damage crews definitely brought their A game to this one and knocked it down quickly. Arnold, CA...How to get your Apple products to work together will be the kick-off topic when the Sierra Macintosh Users Group (SMUG) has its monthly meeting Tuesday, June 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in the assembly room of the Ebbetts Pass Fire District, 1037 Blagen Rd., just off Highway 4.

Arnold, Ca...Independence Hall Quilters will hold its final meeting before summer break on Monday, June 16. They will resume meeting on Monday, September 1, 2014. Independence Hall Quilters meets each Monday at Independence Hall, 1445 Blagen Road, Arnold, CA. All quilters are welcome. This spring, many of the members participated in quilting the award willing quilt “Walking Tall Among the Giants” which was made in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the State Parks of California, and which featured Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
