The Salvation Army and Their Red Kettles Are Helping Here At Home

San Andreas, CA...You see them every year at this time – the bright red kettles of the Salvation Army – often accompanied by a volunteer ringing a bell. You see them in most cities and counties, including in our own Calaveras County. But many residents are unaware there is a Salvation Army Service Extension Unit right here in San Andreas. The Calaveras County Service Extension Unit of the Salvation Army is made up of a 10-person board of volunteers plus a field representative advisor from the Salvation Army. Because we are not large enough to have a Salvation Army Corps Center, we are invisible and most residents do not know we offer assistance year-round to those in need....

Elémentaire is the creation of two professional cooks dedicated to helping take the mystery out of making delicious meals from scratch. Our goal is to educate through the use of culinary terms and techniques and also inspire, through the use of the freshest seasonal ingredients, all who watch to make their own meals to enjoy at home. Angels Camp, CA...Welcome to the 2014 Little League Season. Recently, Ebbetts Pass Little League and Calaveras American Little League merged the two leagues into one. The new league is Bret Harte Little League. This was done for the following reasons: To create a greater sense of community in our new league. Ultimately, most of your children will end up at Bret Harte High School. Both Boards from the former EPLL and CALL leagues believed that we should help foster a larger community perspective in our organization as a way to help the kids get to know each other..

Big Trees, CA...Calaveras Big Trees State Park -- Snow is on the ground and the Christmas tree in historic Jack Knight Hall is decorated for the biggest park event of the winter: the Winter Wonderland celebration on Friday Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This 4th annual event includes a scenic wagon ride inside the park with views of giant sequoias and -- weather permitting -- an Alpenhorn concert in the woods. The mission of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department is to provide competent, effective public safety services to all persons with the highest regard for human dignity through efficient, professional, and ethical law enforcement and crime prevention practices.
