Calaveras Big Trees State Park, CA.....Clarice Baumgartner, a junior at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Clare, has been selected as the 2011 summer intern for the state park by the Calaveras Big Trees Association. Baumgartner is majoring in Education and History which will be useful in her interpretive and educational work within the park. Among other duties, she will be dealing with children's programs. She enjoys explaining things and working with all ages.....

Calaveras Big Trees State Park, CA....Michael Roa, author of "The Conifer Connection," will lead a workshop Saturday May 14 designed for people who want to teach others about the Sierra forest. The workshop will be the first in a series sponsored by the Calaveras Big Trees Association (CBTA) in 2011, and is aimed at teachers, instructors, and docents or other volunteers who help others learn. The workshop is open to the public, and a$10 fee will be charged for attendees......

The 2011 fishing season has now officially started. The weekend proved to be challenging for some of the anglers that wanted to fish the high country and could not reach their destination. For those who fished locally around Arnold and down to Angels Camp there was mixed reports. White Pines Lake located in Arnold was planted this past week and is scheduled to be planted again this week. Murphys Creek, located in Murphys, and Angels Creek located in .....

Arnold, CA.....Bicycle Safety & Free Helmet at Hazel Fischer School this Saturday, May 7th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. If you don't pre-register, show up a little early to register on-site. Bring your bikes & appropriate clothing. Dokken Engineering, under contract to the Calaveras County Public Works Department, is putting on a bicycle safety class at Hazel Fischer this Saturday for kids and their parents. The class is mainly for kids ages 6-11 and is free for Calaveras County residents. You'll get both off-bike and on-bike instruction, and participants will receive a free bicycle helmet and other giveaways. .....
