Hwy 108 & Hwy 120 Collision Takes Lives of Elderly Sonora Man & Woman |

Jamestown, CA...On Sunday, July 15, 2018, at approximately 6:14 pm, a 91 year old male Sonora resident was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry eastbound on State Route 120/108, approaching Yosemite Junction. At this time, 42 year old Berkeley resident, Julieta Pisani-McCarthy, was driving a 2017 Ford Fiesta, westbound on State Route 120 intending to make a left turn onto State Route 120/108, at Yosemite Junction. For unknown reasons, Pisani-McCarthy failed to yield the right away to the approaching Toyota Camry and started into the intersection directly into the path of the Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota Camry was unable to avoid colliding into the left front of the Ford Fiesta.

36 Year Old Angels Camp Woman Loses Her Life in Vallecito Road Collision |

Angels Camp, CA...On July 15, 2018, at approximately 1920 hours, Party #1 was driving her 2005 Subaru eastbound on Vallecito Road, east of Rolleri Bypass at a high rate of speed. Mr. Sanders was driving his 1980 Ford westbound on Vallecito Road, east of Rolleri Bypass at 40 mph approaching the 2005 Subaru. Party #1 attempted to negotiate a right hand curve and allowed her vehicle to travel across the double yellow line into the westbound lane. The left front of the Subaru collided with the left rear of the Ford. The Subaru continued eastbound and off of the roadway. The Subaru overturned twice, ejecting Party #1 from the vehicle.

DoD Identifies Air Force Casualty |

Washington, DC...The Department of Defense announced today the death of an airman who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. Staff Sgt. James T. Grotjan, 26, of Waterford, Connecticut, died July 12 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, from injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident July 8 at Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates.

El Portal, CA...It is with deep sadness that CAL FIRE can confirm that this morning while battling the Ferguson Fire on the Sierra National Forest, CAL FIRE Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Braden Varney from the CAL FIRE Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit was tragically killed. He leaves behind a wife and two small children. Please join us in keeping Braden, his loved ones and his fellow fire family in your thoughts as they grieve this sudden loss.

Arnold, CA...Kathryn "Kit" Yarnell, 9/28/21 - 7/9/18. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to Rebecca & Howard Dickey. Married to Marvin "Marv" Yarnell 6/14/41. Kit retired as a counselor for the San Mateo County Office of Education. She moved to Arnold with Marv in 1980. She was a long time member of the Independence Hall Quilters.

Angels Camp Man Succumbs to Injuries After Being Struck by a Vehicle |

Angels Camp, CA...On July 1, 2018 at approximately 5:00 AM, a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by 55 year old Angels Camp resident, Jutta Larson, struck a pedestrian on South Main Street just north of Mayo Street. The pedestrian was identified as 60 year old Angels Camp resident, Jon VanWey. For unknown reasons, VanWey was in the northbound lane of South Main Street when he was struck by the vehicle.

San Andreas, CA...Thomas James Milligan, July 9, 1945 – July 5th, 2018. Thomas James Milligan, Military Veteran, wine maker, artist, water master, computer engineer, inventor, coach, and jack of all trades, died Thursday just four days prior to his 73rd birthday from cancer. Tom, as he was known to his friends and family, spent his final years in Calaveras County. He was a source of comfort at the local hardware stores. His advice and creative thinking helped many an individual out of a sticky situation. While in Calaveras County, his love of wine really took shape, his 2004 Cabernet was second to none, and don’t forget his out of this world Bruschetta.

Copperopolis, CA...Edward Lucien Gouzenne was born on March 21, 1949 in Modesto, California. Ed was a fourth-generation Calaveras County resident and lived there all of his life. He graduated from Calaveras High School in 1967. Ed was traveling with his wife on an RV trip, through Medford, Oregon, when he became ill. Ed passed away on June 26th, 2018 surrounded by family. Ed leaves behind two sons, Brett and Eddy, a daughter-in-law, Sara, and a stepdaughter, Kayla Northington. Ed was also a newlywed and leaves behind his wife, Kathy. Ed and Kathy met in high school; they attended the Sweetheart Swing together. In September 2011, they rekindled their friendship and started dating. They married in October of 2016. Ed was most proud of his grandchildren, Soleil, Lavin and Sloane. He loved them dearly and for Ed it was a great day when he could spend time with them.

Angels Camp, CA...Marilynn Darlene Want Davis Hunt, went home to the Lord Thursday, June 28th at the age of 80. A resident of Angels Camp for 46 years. Marilynn was born in Crows Landing California, June 26, 1938 in a Presbyterian parsonage at 4:30 AM on a Sunday morning. Marilynn was blessed by love twice.
