Don Winkler, CAL Fire Firefighter, Passes Away

San Andreas, CA....It is with great sadness that Tuolumne/Calaveras Unit (TCU) of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) announces the passing of Don Winkler. Don completed his sixth season as a firefighter stationed at the Columbia Air Base, where his main duty was to load the air tankers with fire retardant. .....

Jenny Lind, CA....The name of the deceased that unfortunately perished at the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Jenny Lind at Hwy 26 and Warren Road, has been released. His name is Steven M. Baca, 47 of Stockton, CA. The Full CHP release is enclosed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family during this very tragic time.....

Celebration of Life Planned for David Betts on December 6th

Avery, CA....There will be a Celebration of Life for longtime Arnold resident, David Betts, 65, on Saturday, December 6th at 11am. It will be held at Avery Middle School. David Betts passed away at his residence on Hwy 4 on November 15th. According to the Coroner's office Mr. Betts passed away from natural causes at approximately 10pm that day. The last few years had not been kind to David. He had lost a son to cancer and many of you may recall the Betts' Family Memorial yard sales held at the Betts' home every year. He was planning on dedicating a baseball field in his son's name. This man had a heart of gold.

Angels Camp, CA.....There is a Memorial Service for Mr. Buzz Fleming, planned for Saturday November15, 2008 at 3pm at Foothill Community Church in Angels Camp. Help is needed for the reception following the service: Set up, Clean up , Desserts. Mr. Fleming is husband of Sharon Fleming, a Christian Family Learning Center teacher. Both have been CFLC Administrators. He was a Veteran, active in Boy Scouts, an educator....

JAMES N. SCOTT was born August 9, 1938 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Josphine & Nute Scott who moved to Arnold, California (White Pines) in 1947. Jim lived the majority of his life in Arnold, Ca. He attended Hazel Fischer Grammar School in White Pines. He attended Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, Ca. He became a Roofing Contractor in 1971 after working in the trade....

Arnold, CA....Kevin Shawn Harris Passed away unexpectedly on November 2, 2008 in Arnold, CA. Kevin was born on April 14, 1969 in Vallejo, CA and spent his youth in San Jose where he was an exceptional soccer player. He graduated from Oak Grove HS in 1987. As an adult, Kevin had a passion for golf and fishing. After graduating from UTI in 1990, he soon made a name for himself as a reliable and competent HVAC contractor. Kevin is survived by loving parents Phil and Linda Harris of Dorrington, CA and brothers Greg Harris of Pleasanton and Marc Harris of San Jose. Kevin's humor and wit will be missed by family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday November 8th at 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 400 Bret Harte Rd. in Murphys, CA....

Arnold, CA...Calaveras County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Seawell has just finished the official release on the tragic death of 38 year old Kevin Harris of Camp Connell that we covered yesterday. Valley Spring, CA...Authorities have finished notifications and have now released the name of the Valley Springs man that was killed in the early morning accident on November 1st. 49 year old Gregory T. Jones passed away when his 2000 Ford van failed to negotiate the turn at Milton Rd. and Mann Street in Jenny Lind....

Valley Springs Man Loses Life in Milton Road Accident

Jenny Lind, CA...Just after 1am this morning crews responded to an accident at Milton Rd. near Mann St. where a 49 year old Valley Springs man lost his life. He was traveling South on Milton and was unable to maintain control during a curve to the left. He left the road traveled up and embankment, struck a tree and he Ford van subsequently rolled as well. His name will be released pending notifications. The CHP release is enclosed. As of 8:27pm this evening, we have not received the gentleman's name....

James was born February 3, 1936 in Colby, KS to Cyril Maxwell Windle and Emma Lou (Mahoney) Windle. James grew up and graduated from Colby High School. He received his bachelors degree in agriculture from Fort Hays State University in Hays. KS, where he met his first wife, Karen Murray. He received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California.......
