CUSD Independent Study now enrolling students for 2013 Fall semester

COUNTYWIDE – Enrollment in Calaveras Unified School District’s Sierra Hills Independent Study program is now open for students for the Fall 2013 semester. Sierra Hills provides a unique home-based learning opportunity for the 21st century parent and student. The online school allows students in kindergarten through 12th grade the experience to learn from virtually anywhere a computer will take them. Student learning is directed by an adult at home, but guided by a credentialed teacher of CUSD and is based on California state Standards.

San Andreas Was Rumbling Yesterday

San Andrrea, CA...The San Andreas brought their San Andreas Rumble Car Show and swap meet to the Calaveras County Government Center. The park like setting was a very venue for the event. There were lots of cars, entertainment, food and even gardening demonstrations from the master gardeners. We would like to thank Charles Dudley Jr. for the great photos of the event. Community Turns Out for U.S. Army Sgt. Mathew William Maddox 1990 - 2013

Wallace, CA...This morning his community and home turned out to say goodbye as U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew William Maddox started on his last journey to Arlington National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. The procession started at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel and went through Valley Springs and Wallace on Hwy 12 on it's way to Sacramento Airport. He died July 5th 2013. Born July 25th 1990, Matt lived in Wallace until he left for Army Basic Training in 2008. Matt attended Calaveras High School where he was active on the wrestling and track team. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 302 Matt attained the rank of Eagle Scout. As a high school senior Matt joined the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Army in August 2007. Upon graduation in June 2008 he signed his enlistment papers as a Fire Support Specialist. After completing Basic Training and AIT Matt went to Airborne school at Ft Benning Georgia. Upon graduation from Airborne Jump School he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza ltaly. Deployed twice to Afghanistan, and due to separate from theArmy August 13, 2013 Matt was in the process of pursuing a career in law enforcement with his goal to become a California Highway Patrol Officer. Members of the Patriot Guard are escorting Sgt. Maddox as he makes his way to the Sacramento Airport.
